Thanks Kathy.  That scene was VERY intense!  As a sympathetic viewer, you really get to feel the release of energy in the reunion embrace/kiss.  And Alma finding them out only increases the tension.

The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

That picture clearly shows that Ennis was not walking directly behind Jack -- you have to look carefully at this scene in the film (the post, in particular) in order to see this...

He was walking directly behind Jack before, yes?  In front of the white building to the left.  Then he went around outside the post -- interesting.
