Did anyone else notice Ennis' ears?

After seeing the film for the second time, I noticed in close up shots of Ennis/Heath Ledger, the indentation of ear piercings on his ear lobes.  On Oprah today, Heath Ledger actually wore small hoop pierced earrings in each ear.  I gather that in the early 1960's, cowboys didn't ordinarily have their ears pierced?  Just an observation.

not...I did not see that...another good reason to go see BBM again...to look for all those little details again!

I would imagine that a cowboy wearing earrings in the 1960s wouldn't last very long out on the range.

Didn't notice that--you have sharp eyes!

Great observation. I saw that during my 4th viewing. I don't think cowboys in that era would have ear piercing.  :)

Are the ear piercings noticeable in Ennis and Jack's last scene together or with Ennis and Alma, Jr? That damn mosquito on Heath's right cheek during their last scene distracted me from checkling Heath's ears!!!

Can't remember exactly which scene. It is noticable with close ups. Sorry to hear the mosquito - on Heath's right cheek. How did you notice that instead of noticing piercing? ;)

Makeup should have caught and covered up such indentations.  Perhaps with putty.

I did notice that. I always notice that on actors, because I used to have pierced ears, and even though they're closed up now, I can still feel the indentations and I can see them in the mirror.

There were so many times when you see Heath's ear holes during the film..I bet that hurt BBM with make-up recognition during award season!

How do you stay still and not hit that bug?  Did you notice it is there, then not there and then there again.  I quess this wasn't filmed continuously?  Or that mosquito flew away and came back to the exact same apot?   Ha! Ha!     Glad to hear someone comment on this.

I'm coming onto this thread late, but I must say that mosquito really bothered me! In such an intense scene, that damned insect acutually took my attention for a split second! I wanted to jump into the movie, slap the thing, and then yell, retake! This is why the BBM film is worth viewing again and again: of course the story line itself has infinite openings to keep our imaginations soaring, and our hearts a flutter......but when viewed many times, one can be ready to focus on details that the eyes noticed but the brain did not compute!

I think the mosquito on Ennis' right jaw, near his neck, is in the last scene between Ennis and Jack, when they are confronting one another; it's a close-up of Ennis facing screen right to Jack.

Did you notice how the mosquito seemed to come and go depending upon the camera shot? :-)  When looking at Ennis over Jacks shoulder it was there, when viewing Jack from behind Ennis, it was gone.

Yeah, that was pretty funny.  I guess it took more than 1 take to do that scene.

I believe this was when Ennis was telling Jack he would kill him, if he ever found out about his escapades?                    - Nancy
