. . . perhaps Gyllenhaal is keeping it as a memento of BBM. If this is true, that would make the coat priceless in my estimation...

Or as the ad would say:

Blue parka & Purple shirt worn by Jack during camping trip with Ennis: $3,477.00
Beige parka & Gray shirt worn by Jack at last meeting with Ennis: $2,650.00
Green coat worn by Jack on Brokeback Mountain and FNIT with Ennis: priceless

aintfoolin, I would gladly make you wear Jack's coat during the confrontation scene if we meet in some future BBM gathering.

As weas mentioned in the thread, one of the blue parkas had "treasures" in the pockets when the buyer finally got it.

As for the green coat, why it has not been offered for auction seems to suggest that perhaps Gyllenhaal is keeping it as a memento of BBM.  If this is true, that would make the coat priceless in my estimation...

Treasures?  In the blue parka? What praytell might those be, or should I guess?  Do you know? A can opener? Maybe a can of beans? Oh I know, A potato! ;D

Not as good as that, aintfoolin .  :)  Some gum.  And I believe some paper/writing associated with the scene filming?  I don't recall the exact details of the latter, or whether there were hand-written annotations...

Back to the green coat, I also wonder about the other pieces of clothing that went with it...

ebay ALERT - Jack BBM outfit - FYI there is an ebay auction on today and tomorrow Oct 19-20 for one of Jack's jeans and tee-shirt outfits worn in scenes 50 -52 (the post-SNIT frolicking in camp, binocular & chopping wood scene). See this link:

Hi folks! New guy here and just wanted to say I loved that green coat too. I had a couple of coats like that when I was younger, except they were brown, and they were nice!

Hi Samwise and Welcome  :)

Welcome, samwise_fan1965!  Do you remember the brand/make of the coats?  I would love to know where one can get a similar one these days...

At the moment I cannot remember the brand either coat was. I got the first one way back when I was just a young lad (back in the seventies). The second was a gift from my aunt for graduation. Funny thing, the second coat was almost identical to the one Jack is wearing during the reunion camping trip. I even wore a black cowboy hat (still do) and drove an old red and white ford pick up!
I can tell you one thing though, those coats were very warm! I am hoping to find another one someday.
I was recently at a western wear store (Drysdales) and asked about the coats and the guy acted like he had never seen one. And he was older than I am!

Oh God.  I am so frustrated at ever tracing the whereabouts of this coat that I would be happy to get a simple replica!  Thanks, samwise.  I suppose you have lost the second one after so many years...

Yes, unfortunately the coat was lost in an accident several years back. But I am hoping to someday find another one new or used.

Thank you.

I have made a draft to James Schamus (inquiring about something that was left hanging in our meeting in NYC last week) and have included a postscript asking about this coat.

:)
