Ennis, weather-eyed, looked west for the heated cumulus that might come up on such a day but the boneless blue was so deep, said Jack, that he might drown looking up.

His shaking hand grazed Ennis's hand, electrical current snapped between them.

I'm not sure I can take the day off..I know I can't, I would have to call in sick..and I do plan to drink champagne!

I already know I will sleep in the afternoon..the Oscars will not start till 1am UK time, will have the red carpet at 12am..but am not expecting to go to bed before 5 am!! So yes calling in sick sounds like the solution. Or maybe I can miss the 1st and 2nd period! *she says as she checks her diary*

We are going to have a BIG live thread. Please join us in the forum for BBM.

Wonderful idea ! It would be nice to join you. But I first have to discover if the show will be shown on any European channels.  :-\ Stephan

I have been trying to figure this out myself...

They don't show it on any of the Dutch channels so I'm totally depended on either BBC 1 or 2 to show the whole thing... I really want to see this live and not just read about it the next day and figure out who won in two seconds... ::crosses fingers for all Europeans::

Alas the only audience that gets to see the Oscars live is the East Coast (Eastern Standard Time) of the US.  Though the ceremoney takes place at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles (about 150 miles from where I live) it's on a three hour delay locally because of the time difference (Pacific Standard Time).  With a three hour delay it becomes old news - news of the winners are all over the Internet by that time.   >:(

The only way around this is to have dish or satellite TV but I have cable.  It's all about marketing and getting the biggest audience.   I'm thinking about changing to a dish network.

Am so excited about oscar night, I can hardly contain myself.  But won't be able to watch it on tv, as don't have sky movies (which is the only channel UK viewers can see it on live), so will be on line for a while to soak up the no-doubt euphoric atmosphere which will be created for such a night for our Brokeback boys.  I'm worried though that once I get on here, I won't be able to tear myself away and go to bed (due to work and children)!

As well as the necessary food and drink requirements that such a prestigious night demands, how about us all donning cowboy hats with "Jack Nasty Loves You" on the front!  It'll be like a communal good-luck charm to our boys!  I'm relying on Jake to live up to the promise he made on Oprah, if he wins he did say he's going declare that "Jack Nasty Loves you"!!!

Jake winning will be amazing enough, but am getting goosebumps at the thought of Heath winning best actor.....know I'll start crying, especially if he talks about his "two girls"!!!!  :'(

Damn BBC for not showing it live!!!!!   >:( >:(

You and me together
Through the days and nights
I don't worry 'cause
Everything's gonna be all right
People keep talking
They can say what they like

ABC Averages $1.7 million for Oscar Ads[/b]

By Steve Gorman  -  Reuters  - 24/2/2006

The ABC network, flush from its blockbuster Super Bowl telecast, is reaping yet another bonanza from its upcoming Oscar show, traditionally one of the most watched events of the year on U.S. television.

The Walt Disney Co.-owned network has sold its entire advertising inventory for the March 5 Academy Awards broadcast for an average of $1.7 million per 30-second spot, up from $1.6 million last year, an ABC source said on Friday.

With an allotment of about 48 commercial spots during the Oscar show, that would come to nearly $82 million for the entire three-hour telecast.

By comparison, ABC averaged $2.5 million for each 30-second ad sold for the February 8 broadcast of the Super Bowl, which drew more than 90 million viewers to rank as the most watched U.S. TV program in 10 years.

The Oscar ad hike comes even though the audience of 41 million who tuned in for last year's telecast, capped by the triumph of boxing drama "Million Dollar Baby," was down 5 percent from 2004, when "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" was the big winner.

Nielsen ratings for the Academy Awards tend to rise and fall according to the commercial popularity of the films in contention.

This year, as in 2005, the nominees for the film industry's highest honors are dominated by relatively small-scale movies that drew modest audiences, such as "Brokeback Mountain" and "Crash," as opposed to box office blockbusters like "Lord of the Rings" or "Titanic."

But ABC and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is counting on a ratings boost from the new Oscar host, popular comic and Comedy Central star Jon Stewart.

Aside from generally ranking as the second biggest night on television after the Super Bowl, the Oscars tend to draw a higher-than-usual quotient of upscale viewers, particularly among those who normally watch little TV.

This makes the Oscar audience especially attractive to advertisers.

An ABC spokeswoman said the majority of this year's Oscar advertisers are returning sponsors, and more than half the ads will launch new commercial campaigns.

Among the brands making an appearance on the Oscar show this year will be American Express, Coca-Cola Co., General Motors Corp., Procter & Gamble Co., State Farm insurance and the McDonald's fast-food chain.

Conspicuously absent are any film studios, which Academy rules bar from advertising on the Oscars.

My apologies, you're right Karind I just checked the local listings and it does start at 5 pm local time live.  I don't know when they changed it.   The amount of money they are making for the commercials, it should be live.   Red Carpet starts at 3 pm local - well more post-Oscar chat time on this BOard when it's over here at 8 pm local.  More Oscar party time for the actors and actresses.   ;D
