I can hear a clear "C'mere" in the stair kiss (always have), but not some of the other things.  I don't trust the captioning, since  on my first viewing I got an error almost immediately:  When Jack yells at Freezing!Ennis to come inside, he says (in book and screenplay) "Quit yer hammerin' and get in here!" but the subtitle is "Quit yer yammerin' and get in here!".  WHY?  I have no idea.  It's like someone said "Forget the screenplay, I'm just gonna guess!"

I've decided not to watch the subtitles - it's only going to confuse these issues more!

backtobrokeback - I hear the "c'mere" as Ennis pushes Jack toward the stairwell too (although sometimes I think he says something like "over 'ere" instead?)

MissRed - you're so right about the power of suggestion. Or maybe it's just the power of this love story that makes us want to hear more "sweet nothings" between Ennis and Jack? I'm back to thinking it's three "s'alrights" in the SNIT now - cranked the volume way up this morning on the surround sound and it's definitely Jake's voice all three times.

I've always heard  it as "sorry" and then the "it's alright" twice. And NoReins, those are the reasons I thought he said it except for the "help me" part. I never thought of it that way- it makes perfect sense Ennis being unsure of himself and Jack right there with reassurance

I just saw a Youtube video which seems to have the audio in the SNIT scene enhanced and the "I'm sorry" line was clearly heard spoken by Jack.

Nope, I would bet "I'm sorry.....I'm so sorry." was said.  And, I, like keren, have to ask the question, what does Jack have to be sorry for.  And, why is it you can see Jack's lips move when he says, "It's alright" but nowhere else if he was the one to say "I'm sorry?"  And, if he did say, "I'm sorry", why would he answer himself with, "It's alright"?

I hear Ennis say I'm sorry in the second scene.  I had to watch his lips as well as concentrate on it.  But after a million times watching it I see something new every time.  It is like I am ingesting this film.  I am insane.

I heard Sorry. It's in the subtitles too, therefore its there. End of story for me ! ahah!

Ennis says it, the end. *plugs ears to any who disagrees* haha im so stubborn LOL!  ;)  ;D

I don't think he should apologize for that... I'm sure he's not sorry about it anyway - now when he knows that Ennis wants that too.

cham, I thought that for ages too, but since I got my dvd, I really do believe it's just 3 "s'alright"'s from Jack. As has been discussed elsewhere, the subtitles are not always right...

This is one thing I concentrated on many times in Theaters and now on DVD, I swear, he says it!  Heath added here and there some lines that are not on the screenplay, like ''Jake I cannot stand this anymore'' on their last encounter.

I watched the movie again tonight, and I am pretty sure I hear I am sorry and its allright..I had the volume all the way turned up..so I think I heard it..next time I will put the subtitles on and see what it says

well, after watching the movie 8 times and reading the subtitles, I could have sworn I heard Ennis say 'I'm sorry' and Jack 'it's alright, it's alright, come lay down'

i can't hear it, but the sound is poor on my laptop. but it is in the subtitles as

While watching on the laptop for the first time I heard come here and I heard the sorry also from the both that I could tell.Then Jack saying its ok.I think Ennis was saying sorry for what he said to Jack on the mountain after they spent the night together.I think Ennis was really having feelings for Jack.I love that scene.
