Dumb question. (We need a thread for tech stuff.) Can one save these .gif's in one's computer? I mean, how does it play? Does it just show up in your folder thumbnails as a still? If you click on it, what opens up to play it?

At the risk of going off topic, I will answer this for you. I throw a picture in at the end

The answer to your question is yes, you can save gif files on your computer. Basically, all a gif file is, is a series of images put together to create movement. Similar to a flipbook. Image editing programs such as photoshop or paintshop pro will not show the gif in animated form because they are editing applications. Something more general like Windows Picture and Fax viewer or even internet explorer or firefox can be used to view animated gif files in motion from your hard drive.
In addition, there are programs out there to compile gifs. I normally use Animation Shop which is by JASC who also makes Painshop Pro. There's ImageReady that goes along with Photoshop. It's all pretty simple once you see how they are created. Nothing too complicated really. The hardest part is compressing it to give it an acceptable file size but retaining image quality.
I second the idea for a tech thread, btw.
And now back to the boys...
