I'm wearing my stripey gloves...

IN LOVING MEMORY

Thanks for all you've done
I've missed you for so long
I can't believe you're gone
You still live in me
I feel you in the wind
You guide me constantly

I've never knew what it was to be alone, no
Cause you were always there for me
You were always there waiting
And ill come home and I miss your face so
Smiling down on me
I close my eyes to see

And I know, you're a part of me
And it's your song that sets me free
I sing it while I feel I can't hold on
I sing tonight cause it comforts me

I carry the things that remind me of you
In loving memory of
The one that was so true
Your were as kind as you could be
And even though you're gone
You still mean the world to me

I've never knew what it was to be alone, no
Cause you were always there for me
You were always there waiting
But now I come home and it's not the same, no
It feels empty and alone
I can't believe you're gone

And I know, you're a part of me
And it's your song that sets me free
I sing it while I feel I can't hold on
I sing tonight cause it comforts me

I'm glad he set you free from sorrow
I'll still love you more tomorrow
And you will be here with me still

And what you did you did with feeling
And You always found the meaning
And you always will
And you always will
And you always will

And I know, you're a part of me
And it's your song that sets me free
I sing it while I feel I can't hold on
I sing tonight cause it comforts me

It's a year since your memories are in our heart

It's a year since that night with so much loneliness,
since that silent shout that died inside your neck,
since that endless journey with no coming back,
since you filled with sorrow your vital pack.
Everybody,then,had been blind to see
the answer that shadowed your amber eyes.
Nobody,then,could give you a courage's stick
to lean on while walking for your stony path.
You were then like a lonely Ennis del Mar,
always longing for what could have been,
without the strength to recover the "it is"
of the only truth that kept you alive...
In exchange, someone far beyond the Earth
called you that night to enlighten his world
by enjoying your talent and your youth.
And then you began to play your new role,
far away from us,but full with hope...
It's a year since the Universe has a new star
that shines much more that the rest.
It's a year since we keep on looking at the sky,
where this light frames kindly your face.
And,although we know you are in the light breeze
that caresses and watches Matilda's sleep,
we'd want you here,to be in your own Brokeback,
riding strongly along the happinness way,
even if a reality serves us of some relief:
that you're riding forever along with Jack,
...It's a year since our gardens have a plant
that is growing day by day inside our veins
and that is watered constantly with our tears.
We all feel this plant is named after you: HEATH.

It has been a year...

It was a cold winter day
When you were taken away.
But through your life and your art
You will always be in our hearts.
We celebrate you now
As you receive the praise you’re due.
And mourn the hole you left
On the day that we lost you.
So many things call you to mind:
A glimpse of a star,
The echo of a song,
The sight of striped clothes,
We feel you with us still.
You didn’t leave us behind.
366 days could never be enough
To heal all the hurt or dry all the tears.
But we will keep moving forward,
Carrying you with us through the years.
You left a footprint on our universe
With your creative gifts and generous heart.
You will forever remain
Our cowboy,
Our Casanova,
The knight of our heart.

In love and fond memory for a beautiful soul who branded himself on all our hearts.

Don't stand by my grave and weep,
For I am not there.
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond's glint in the snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
In the soft blush of the morning light
I am the swift bird in flight.
Don't stand by my grave and cry,
I am not there,
I did not die.

One year ago, at this same hour I received a call from a Brokie sister here...
...then I knew the unthinkable happened, at first I was numb.
The tears came later,
they are still flowing.

There's a hole in my heart since you left,
You know whut?
You changed my life.

Thank you Heath!

Quote from Chris Nolan,
accepting Heath's Golden Globe Award
for Best Supporting Actor

Little darlin'....I miss you more than ever today.  I miss you and love you and I wish you were here with all of my being.

I wish, too, that I could give each and every one of you that's hurting today the warmest, tightest hugs ever.   I'm sending my love out to all of you.   :ghug:

I had expected this day to be hard, but just not this hard.  It's morning here, and I woke up crying, and knew instantly that I wouldn't be going to work today.

The first sound I heard as I got up was Heath's name on TV, and in my mind's ear.  I saw his father being interviewed by the Australian Today Show's Richard Wilkins, and felt so crushed I couldn't breathe.  Kim Ledger said that none of the family members have been able to erase Heath's phone number from their phones because it was so easy to believe, at times, that he was simply away on location, and that they almost expected him to call them sometimes.  I just can't say how much that devastated me...

I felt the need to write a couple of poems about this sad day.

Winter Sun

We've made the journey round the Sun
In an orbit made of blue,
We've traveled round the Sun one time
Since the day it set for you.

The sad, cold Sun, she gazes down
From the empty vault of sky,
Her wintry rays
Throughout this day
Just cannot come nigh.

The pale orb in that arc above,
That vast, and boundless space,
She reaches wanly down to us
But cannot warm Earth's face.

Year To The Day

A year to the day
My alarm this morn
Was not a shrill, thin
Sound.
Instead, a vise around my
Chest
A winch so tightly
Bound.

Year to the day
A summer morn
But winter
Nonetheless,
'Twas winter then
'Tis winter now
'Tis winter in my
Chest.

It's a year to the day
I hear your name
The first sound of the
Morning,
Upon my lips
And on TV
This date of saddest
Mourning.

A year to the day
But no less hard
Our hearts are no less
Pained,
A year to the day
But the pain, it blooms
It never seems to
Wane.

It grows like heather on the moors
Blooms unbound,
Untamed
Girt by purple heather
But
There's beauty in the
Pain.

Your father there, upon my
Screen
A whole year to the Day
He can't erase your number yet
In case you'll call today.

Year to the day
My heart cracks more
To a pulp it has been
Beaten.
The sunshine
Casts sad rays upon
My breakfast left
Uneaten.

It's a year to the day
I can't let you go
I cannot let you go
I love you, Heath
And miss you, Heath
I will not let you go.

A breeze outside it stirs the
Trees
A summer, winter
Breeze
Upon this zephyr I'll send my love
Let it drift to heights above

With heavy hearts, the show goes on,
Your presence lights the way.

But what I'd give to have you back
This year unto the day.

Thank you all for your comfort by your words and simply being here. As one of Heath's favorite songs, I know he is singing this to all who love him dearly.

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right
It's all right

I'm sat here with a candle burning and Lords of Dogtown on and I struggle to comprehend Heath's not in this world anymore and that he's been gone a year. Plenty of tears have been cried today in sadness and then pride over the Oscar nod.

This day was always going to be hard, but I'm glad to see I'm ot the only one who found it harder than they could have imagined.

The why question is one I'm sure haunts most of us and will never ever be answered. Why someone who had given/shared so much and yet still had so much left to do was taken so young. The list of things we'd give up in a heartbeat to have him back.

Heath changed our stars and lives forever. I'm grateful that I lived in Heath's time and got to see an actor grow and take on a wide variety of roles, constantly challeging himself and his audience/fans. He'd rather do a small indie type film with a story to tell than the big blockbusters for a fast buck. He seemed a throw back to the old school of acting like Brando and Paul Newman and made him unique and standout from his peers. He's left an incredible body of work, that will ensure he is never forgotten, even by those not even born yet.

And his personality - a geuinely down to earth gentle giant - open minded and harmless. Funny and self depricating. Big hearted. Someone who knew his roots and kept friends and family close to his heart. A guy who threw himself wholeheartedly into everything he did.

I really can't believe its been a year - seems like only yesterday, and as I've said before, still seems like a dream. For me, the best way to honour Heath, is to live as he did. Live for every second and follow our dreams. And let him to continue to inspire us in different ways.

I've rambled enough now, you've all been in my thoughts today, as has all of Heath's family & friends. There's some beautiful words been said and poems written by folks here..that I like to think are raising a smile somewhere. Long may this place continue.

To Heath, where ever you are right now, you are missed more than ever, but will always be in our hearts and thoughts. Take it easy out there. Till we meet again x

I "wrote" this last year for the newsletter...and wanted to post it again....I am using some of Heath’s quotes from his movies, I am sure you will recognise some of them. They are modified to fit my message, and I sincerely hope I am not offending anyone by using them so freely. I apologize in advance.

When something like this happens you are lost. You don't know who you are anymore and what you're capable of.
But if you can't fix it, dear brokies, you gotta stand it.
Through his work, Heath’s talent, youth and beauty will last forever.

Some quotes will always make me smile, others have just started to make me cry.

Today, the pieces of my broken heart are so small that they could be passed through the eye of a needle.
I miss you like the sun misses the flower; like the sun misses the flower in the depths of winter.
Instead of beauty to direct its light to, the heart hardens like the frozen world your absence has banished me to.

Here is the deepest secret nobody knows. Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide.
And this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart... we carry your heart, we carry it in our  hearts.

It's because of you Heath, that we are like this! We've always loved you. You've changed things... forever.
There's no going back. There ain't no reins on this one.

...and I guess we'll see you around, huh?

Rest in peace,

Your faithful squires.

I thought I was fine but why hadn't I remember about the banner? Wow, just to see that banner being placed again makes all the memories of his death so much more...real.

Today, amoungst only a select few of my close friends, I did a day of silence for Heath. I walked through my classes without saying a word. Of course, there were times when I HAD to talk but for the most part, I was silent and I let everyone know why. I wrote a note saying about Heath's death and the silence and too many people gave it back to me saying, "Has it been that long?"..many were so shocked that a year as passed. I can't believe it as well. I always wondered what it would be like and here it is and I don't know what to do or how to react. I will try to stay positive but I know, the feelings of loss will rush back to me.

Heath, I hope you're peaceful up there heaven and looking over all of us, especially your daughter. You ment the world to us with your strength, your willingness to take on life by the reins, and for just being you. And by this, your work, your passion, your outlook on life, you will always be remembered.

When a good man dies

The earth nods, heaves a sigh

And goes right back to work.

Perhaps selling improvisations

Or taking on impossible odds,

Grandiose dreams by sheer force

Of will become reality.

Who ever would have believed this script

In a world where the brisk business

Of birth, death, renewal and chance

Comes in on the money every time.

When a good man dies

The earth nods, heaves a sigh

And just goes back to work.

You can’t trick fate

But you can mold it with passion,

Bend it by ambition

And turn it toward a better world.

I guess I thought you'd be here forever
Another illusion I chose to create
You don't know what ya got until it's gone
And I found out a little too late

I was acting as if you were lucky to have me
Doin' you a favor I hardly knew you were there
But then you were gone and it was all wrong
Had no idea how much I cared

Now being without you
Takes a lot of getting used to
Should learn to live with it
But I don't want to

Living without you
It's all a big mistake
Instead of getting easier
It's the hardest thing to take
I'm addicted to ya babe
You're a hard habit to break

After all of these weeks
I'm still tryin' to shake it
Doin' much better they say that it just takes time
But deep in the night it's an endless flight
I can't get ya out of my mind

Being without you
Takes a lot of getting used to
Should learn to live with it
I don't want to
Being without
Is all a big mistake

Instead of getting any easier
It's the hardest thing to take
I'm addicted to you
You're a hard habit to break

Would you know my name
if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong there in heaven...

Would you hold my hand
if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
if I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day
'Cause I know I just can't stay there in heaven...

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please...begging please

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven...

Would you know my name
if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong there in heaven...

Since you've been away
I've been down and lonely
Since you've been away
I've been thinking of you
Trying to understand
The reason you left me
What were you going through?

I'm missing you
Tell me why the road turns
Ooh ooh
I'm missing you
Tell me why the road turns

As I look around
I see things that remind me
Just to see you smile
Made my heart fill with joy
I'll still recall
All those dreams we shared together
Where did you run to, boy?

I'm missing you
Tell me why the road turns
Ooh ooh
I'm missing you
Tell me why the road turns

Sometimes I've wondered
I didn't understand
Just where you were trying to go
Only you knew the plan
And I tried to be there
But you wouldn't let me in

But now you've gone away boy
I feel so broken hearted
I knew the day we started
That we were meant to be
If only you'd let me!
I've cried so many tears
Gotta face now all my fears
We let time slip away
I need you boy
Here today!

There was so much you gave me
To my heart
To my soul
There was so much of your dreams
That were never told
You had so much hope
For a brighter day
Why were you my flower
Plucked away

I'm missing you
Tell me why the road turns
Ooh ooh
I'm missing you

Wanted to come spend some time with all of you who know just what today means.  To cry some and to share.  Am greatful to have this place to be.  To remember Heath.  Dont know what to say other than what has already been said over and over.

Thank you, Heath, for all the things you never even knew you did for me.

A year went by so fast..Yet I always remember you, even more so during my classes where I constantly play with your wrist band.

Hope everything is amazing up there in Heaven for you, Heath.

Cause it sure seems like hell most of the time down here.

I know you are much bigger than I can ever imagine
Your love touched more people than I will ever know
Yet from time to time out of the blue
I feel your presence and your touch
Like lightning that strikes me flat
And I know my life is changed
For the better, again, forever
Because you were here
Because you are in me
Love you, Always

Today when I was going to school I took one of the newspapers on the bus and on the front page there was a picture of Heath as the Joker and it said "will he get the Oscar?"
I started to cry, not much, but enough to make the woman how sat behind me ask if I everything was alright. I said no and she took my hand and said that it will probably be okay and then she smiled at me. I thought that was very nice of her.
When I arrived at school my friend stood there and I guess she could tell that I had been crying because she just opened her arms and gave me the biggest hug and said that she was there if I wanted to talk. I really have the best friend ever! There are no words that can describe how much she have helped me trough this year...The same goes for everyone on here. Without you I don't know what I would have done so I just have to say thank you all so much %)

And thank you to Heath, without you I would have never met so many nice people.

So many have spoken here, there are no words that wouldn't be repeating.  But all our thoughts are alike, we all miss him.

I recently welcomed a hurting Brokie to the forum and told him to be patient, it all would ease over time and the pain would go away, leaving the good memories in its place.

Well, so far I have been terribly wrong.  My heart is still cracked and I still feel the pain, the loss for a man I never knew, and what he left us to remember, and how he brought so many people together in their sorrow and in his memory.

Feeling the pain and sorrow may not happen as often, but it is still as strong as ever.  And the tears flow just as freely.  But thats OK with me, because the memory of  Heath and all the wonderful moments he gave us will always be there to give me smiles and comfort.  And just like it does for so many others.

                                              Thank you, Heath, for everything!

Heath, this is for you...

Till my body is dust
Till my soul is no more
I will love you
Love you

Till the sun starts to cry
And the moon turns to rust
I will love you
Love you

But I need to know
Will you stay for all time
Forever and a day?

And I'll give my heart
Till the end of our time
Forever and a day

And I need to know
Will you stay for all time
Forever and a day?

And I'll give my heart
Till the end of our time
Forever and a day

Till the stars fill my eyes
And we touch the last time
I will love you
Love you
I will love you
Love you
I will love you
Love you
