I've got MTV, but I'm going to be away when it's shown ::)

What I love most about this scene is that Ennis initiates it.
From the moment that he hears Jack's piece of shit truck pull into the parking lot, you can feel his anxiety and overwhelming excitement right through the screen, and he gives us his rare smile...
It is such an emotional payoff to see Ennis completely out of control.
After all of Jack's wondering and waiting and getting shot down and humiliated in Aguirre's trailer, you can feel Jack's heart soar when he sees the truth for what it is: the man he loves loves him back.

Amen to that, hpv!!  This would have to be one of Jack's best memories of Ennis, proving he's not in this alone ... this passionate reunion, along with Ennis coming to him on his own accord the SNIT and the dozy embrace are the few moments we're allowed to see of Ennis taking the initiative, as you say!  Beautiful synopsis, hpv.  :t)

What amazes me about this scene now is the way in which, when they pull away, Ennis is panting and he closes his eyes for a second before the head nuzzle--you can see him fighting to control himself, relief and lust and love all at war within him.  He initiates the embrace, but also chooses to end it--telling Jack that they'll be alone together again soon.

I love that---Ennis is as close to letting himself go here as he ever has.  But that inner voice tells him to rein it in and not let go completely.  It's so representative of Ennis' internal struggles----on one hand, his passion and love for Jack was overwhelming ("no reins") but on the other hand, he pulled away and suppressed it when he had to (he could make it on a couple of high altitude f**ks a year).  Still, Ennis struggling to regain his composure is pretty damn sexy.   :d)

I know it was already posted that the boys won for Best Kiss on the MTV awards, but i didn't see any comment on the wonderful acceptance speech given by Jake. And I quote "It's an honor, to me and Heath and all of you that you picked this movie and this kiss over all the others. It is a big deal. It IS a big deal." At least that is as close as I can remember, but it's pretty accurate. Love those words and I love the passion that they were spoken with.

I'm just glad the MTV world could recognize it.  There's certainly never been any other kiss I've seen in a film that could make me feel weak and fluttery EVERY time I see it, even now after all these viewings.  I never thought that any piece of art could hit me this hard--but it does, it does.

I'm welling up with tears reading these new posts. :\'(  This scene is so powerful I don't know if the film industry will ever produce anything in the future that will match this intensity.

mmmhmm. they only thing more powerful in film history was when Jake's backside shows up on screen.  O0

The reunion scene is right up there!

I had a bit of a reunion kiss-fest today and watched it about 10 times in a row.....you know when Ennis pulls away, and Jack is desparately trying to kiss Ennis again, and then the camera zooms in on them, close as can be without them actually kissing, I love the way Ennis looks at Jack, just before he touches his face.  His face is full of love, of longing, of desire, of 4 years worth of waiting for this moment.

I adore the head nuzzle, its probably my favourite part, but this bit before it has just jumped out at me and I love it.

That is interesting your saying that Ennis could make it on a coupla high altitude F...ks a year.
That is so true,  he could suppress his feelings , where Jack couldn't or wouldn't.
That reunion scene was total confirmation to Ennis how he really felt about Jack.  Scared the

Yes, I did think that Ledger did this beautifully -- almost not believing the intensity of his reaction...  It affirmed what he knew deep inside during those 4 years: he coudn't forget Jack.

right before the nuzzle, see Jack go in for more lovin' and Ennis kinda pulls his off.  Look how hungry Jack looks as he tries to get more of his lover while Ennis reins it in so them two can pull it together, go an obligitory ' bye' to Alma , then hot foot it to the nearest motel.

I think everyone who likes this scene is so touched by the head nuzzle. It's a very quick and small gesture, yet it speaks volumes of Ennis's feelings towards seeing Jack after 4 years.

I think that the head nuzzle is the "little darlin" that we don't here, but is in the book. I love it <^(

The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man.

- Annie Proulx -

From the vibration of the floorboard on which they both stood, Ennis could feel how hard Jack was shaking.

It's amazing how you can watch Jack in this scene go from "son of a bitch," so glad just to see and hug Ennis--to "gotta have you right now," unable to drag his eyes away from Ennis's lips, unable to believe the powerful emotion that Ennis is letting him see.

Yes, the nuzzle, the nuzzle--says it all, along with Jack's hungry look up at Ennis as they're beginning to ascend the stairs.  Wow!!

I thought they were going to squeeze the life out of each other when they first hugged.  I love how they shut their eyes tight and hold on, just soaking in the feel of each other after all those years. Then, the look on both of their faces when they pull apart; Jack can't take his eyes off of Ennis' lips and Ennis looks all nervous and then thinks, what the hell, and slams Jack back for that kiss.  It blows me away every time.  I absolutely loved the dazed look on Jack's face when Ennis finally regains some control and literally peels Jack off of him.  Then the nuzzle; oh, it drives me insane.  That nuzzle definitely says, "we're not through yet."   :d)

OMG, the nuzzle makes me melt every time, as does Ennis's "later" <^( The way Ennis goes from the wild outburst of passion of the kiss, to that tender, reassuring touch and soft whisper,it's what makes the scene stand out from most movie kisses, it's the aftermath, as much as the kiss itself, that takes my breath away. Jack had waited four years for that kiss, he didn't want it to end, but Ennis nuzzling his face reassures him that he won't have to wait that long this time :) Although, saying that, thae conversation with Alma must have felt to both of them like it lasted four years, they couldn't get away fast enough ;D
There was some open space between what he knew and what he tried to believe, but nothing could be done about it, and if you can't fix it you've got to stand it.
