Ok, can't remember if i posted this before and certainly cannot find it if i did, but trying to get those animated gifs to work as an avatar on atnohter board and just sat there looking at the little one of the embrace at the reunion...and I noticed something... when they come together Jack sort of jump into Ennis' arms. Mayby cause Ennis is slightly taller but it looks like it

IMO Jack not seen Ennis for 4 years, hes knows that Ennis is a contained sort of guy. When Ennis leans over with that great big grin on his face 'Jack F*cking Twist' and then runs down stairs to get to him, its EXACTLY the reaction Jack was hoping for, hell, i'd leap at him if he was that pleased to see me!xx

That is the greatest love scene I have ever sceen in my life. I totally believed these two were in love at this point. They each had four years to think about each other.
It starts with a joyous hug.
Then the delclarations of love ('son of a bitch')
Then the passionate/animalistic kiss.
Then the dizzying cool- down and assurance head nuzzle.
Beautiful.

I love the head nuzzle....I love how heath grabs Jakey G's ears when he kisses him. I love that whole scene. It makes my heart beat very fast and I get a rush of excitement. It's such a happy moment.

oh yes....my heart pounds so hard and so fast I almost think it's going to jump out! I love EVERYTHING about this scene, it can do no wrong for me. Even the build up....Ennis pacing around the room, looking out of the window, then hearing the truck, and that smile when he sees Jack get out of the truck.....it's like "there he is, the love of my life".

Jack f***ing Twist, after 4 long years, well to me this has to be one of the most intense moment. the way they hugged then that kissing scene was what dreams are made of, this for me is how I always dreamed loved would be shown between two men in life. when I was a young fellow I had my moment or two with my BBM man, he was married and everytime his wife would leave to go upstairs or late in the evening she'd go to bed early, he'd sneaked me a kiss under the radar, and he would say " how f***ing wonderful is that" eh that was then this is now, but memories are the glue that hold our lives in the later parts of one's life.

I already posted this under "News Coverage Feb 13-19" (sorry for the repeat), but think it also fits perfectly here, with a spot-on description of the reunion:

Exactly. My heart goes into overdrive when Ennis receives the postcard from Jack . . .then the day of Jack's arrival, it seems as though Ennis puts on his best shirt. The pacing, the drinking, the smoking, looking out the window, slumped in the chair like he believes Jack isn't coming at all. Then the smile, racing down the stairs two at a time, the best kissing scene ever....oh, Ennis, I love you!

I'm the same with this scene..

There are many sad scenes and hot scenes and downright nasty scenes (the violence of Ennis to Alma in the kitchen) but this scene is THE love scene for me.....the buildup the anticipation, the "Jack fu**in' Twist", the run to each other (For men afraid to show their emotions - RUNNING to each others arms) the embrace and that wonderful, tremendous kiss after 4 years .

This whole scene ending with the nuzzle is so sweet, and after seeing the movie for the first time, this is the scene more than any which gets me crying (cos I know how this joy will change to sorrow).

For me BBM was more than a love story, it was also a film of lost and wasted years, betrayals (by both men to their wives and by Jack to Ennis). But this KISS shows why Jack beleived they had a future together. I beleived at that point Ennis loved him so why shouldn't he.

Like someone sayd somewhere, Jack went form "what the hell?" to "hell yeah" pretty quickly in that scene

no wonder he suggested to Ennis that they ranch up together...

The RELIEF I feel at this scene is part of its brilliance. The first time I saw it, I was surprised, relieved, and understood for the first time the depth of their love. The way the film works up to this, showing that the men APPEAR to go on with their lives, and then - OH, they so haven't!

I can only imagine how many times I will watch this scene when I get my dvd. It's the epitome of yearning, passion, deception (dare I say it? to self and others), love!. God this movie is incredible! I am just fine throughout the day, until I get on this site and start reading posts. Then, I just want to get myself to the theater!

I too think the Reunion kiss is one of the most passionate, intense kisses I have ever seen.

To me, it could only be bettered by the kiss Ennis and Jack share on the second night in the tent, when Ennis goes reluctantly to Jack and gives himself, at first reluctantly, then totally. But i know this is the wrong thread to discuss that scene - sorry. IMO, the 2nd tent kiss scene, when Jack whispers 'It's alright' and then pushes Ennis over onto his back and they both kiss passionately - that is without a doubt the most memorable love scene of all time and I challenge anyone to find a more memorable love scene, in any film.

Yeah, that running into each others arms.....so lovely. And when they do hug, my gosh, you think they'd crush each other, they're hugging each other so much and so hard! The only reason to stop hugging is to kiss! I cannot, and never will, get enough of this scene, this kiss, this reunion.....how Heath and Jake (but especially Heath) were able to create such passion and make it believable.....amazing.

The only thing that spoils it for me is Alma witnessing the kiss. I remember the first time I saw that scene, my heart was beating, and I was like "at last, Ennis has realised what he let go four years ago", then Alma sees, and I was like "oh no, no, you weren't supposed to see that". Purely selfish on my part, because I'd been enjoying seeing Ennis and Jack reunited so much!

No challenge here - I absolutely agree on both counts.

The hug at their reunion is just... I don't know... breathtaking, and so touching. They're just so purely "there" in that scene. When do we *ever* get to see two men hug and kiss each other with love and passion when we go watch a movie? I think that that's what appeals to me so much (among other things): that for once, it's not two men blowing each other up with gunfire, but blowing each other away with pure love.

I agree, it is the passion with which they kiss which is so moving. But I am not sure why it is so moving: I don't think it is the fact it is two men - even though that in itself is very unusual in Hollywood. I think it is the acting of the two men on screen..had it been any other leading men, it may have fallen flat - but those two made it very real and unforgettable. There was serious chemistry between them which may not have worked, but it did in this case.

Right Alicat. What is so astonishing about this movie is the wide appeal (and strong reaction) of the audience. It really does transcend gender. It's a great love story (but that doesn't even begin to describe it - it's so much more). Yes, the forbidden love because of the same sex thing is crucial, but it's NOT about them being men. It's about the love (and yearning and passion and fear of discovery, and the missing each other.)

as mention above it transcend gender, but something came to mind about this movie that I find maybe alot of us lack or need, that is " tenderness and touch " we in this day an age have become flustered about showing our vulnerability and our fondness of each other as human beings. I know there is always the lovy dovy that has the first time love and marry their sweethearts, but I know alot and alot of single and married people who yearn to be touched in the same manner Ennis and Jack felt for each other and this Feeling of Tenderness between each other is not seen with there wives, so maybe that is what we crave for, to follow our hearts instead of living by the norns and values society at large dictates, what we had been brougth up as being so Perfect isn't as perfect after all.

I'd read the story so knew what would happen but friends hadn't and the power of the kiss blew them away --- the whole cinema gasped. It seemed to make it real --- even more so than the tent scenes.

Your're so right Jackie, he couldn't get down those stairs quick enough! I wonder if the beer Ennis had been drinking all afternoon helped him feel less inhibited than what he would normally! But still, the power of that beautiful kiss is something not even 4 bottles of beer could help create - it had to be instinctive and I think Ennis knew, from the "you bet" on the postcard, to wearing his best shirt, waiting patiently by the window....Ennis knew.

It don't matter if he knew or not that the kiss would happen.

What came across was that he was so het up he couldn't have stopped it if he wanted...........damn he just didn't care. Even though he looked around for a minute to see if no-one was there, the passion took over. Watch Jack's face, it looks like he thinks Ennis is going to hit him when he pushes him against the wall.............AND AFTERWARDs woooooeee! When Jack realises....the return kiss.........god what I'd give to be on either end of that. HOT! HOT! HOT!.

They both don't care so much that they don't hear the screen door open and bang shut (Quite loudly in fact).

This kiss is the best kiss I've seen on screen in many a long time (gay or straight) and better than the sex scenes for me. Maybe it had something to do with Michelle Phillips (great and wonderful as Alma). Heath Ledger who had just been seeing her at that point for a little while, says that she told him to really go for it, so that she'd be genuinely shocked by what she saw,

What I absolutely love about the reunion embrace/kiss is that it shows the sheer strength, energy, and (dare i say it) masculinity of two men loving each other. This isn't some fey, half-hearted, tragic stolen kiss. This is a full-on, man to man embrace where both men use their muscles to force each other as one. For me it really captures the true essence of gay love - the power and undeniability of it all. Two stars colliding. Totally.

In the fanfic story Huuman Interest, Liz sees a kiss between Ennis and Jack and says something like, when two people kiss it is usually a kisser and a kissee, but here it seems more like two people fighting over who gets to be the kissee...and a fight where both wins

I think that can be applied to this kiss

Just found this thread (hey, I'm new here) and had to add my thoughts. This is my joint favourite scene, along with the SNIT, because it shows completely how strong the feelings were between Jack and Ennis and because this time it's Ennis taking the lead and opening himself up to Jack. The whole thing, from Ennis's anticipation to the obvious concern when he thinks Jack isn't coming, to the little smile when he hears the truck - and then "Jack f***in Twist"!!

When they hugged I thought maybe that would be all there was to it - but then you see the way that they look at each other after the hug and you just know there's much more to come. The passion, desire and urgency that Heath and Jake managed to convey in the scene is incredible and, obviously, the kiss itself (kisses?) is seriously hot. And then there's the way that Jack is still trying to kiss Ennis even as Ennis is trying to pull Jack's hands away - and the reassuring touch of Ennis's hand on Jack's face and *sigh* the nuzzle. The look on Jack's face as Ennis moves towards the appartment just finishes the scene perfectly - he's so shocked by what has just happened, so blown away by the fact that Ennis has shown so much passion and clearly so desperate to get Ennis alone somewhere.....

I have a feeling I may wear out that bit on my DVD
