Hm... I don't remember seeing this scene from this side of the river.
You always have some specials for us!  

 

I never saw any shots of this scene this from this angle, either.  It makes me think of how much footage there is that we haven't seen, and I long to see it.

Often, in the movie, the way Ang Lee used closed-in shots, at the camp sites for instance -- and sometimes from one angle, sometimes from another -- I often didn't realize they were in the same place.  An example is the "What exactly is the Pentacost?" scene.  It seemed to be a different location than what I saw later was the same campsite as FNIT.  (If I have that right -- might be getting my examples mixed up.)

But anyway, it's like a whole other dimension to the story when we get to see from a different viewpoint.  Did we ever even see that tent in any of these scenes of this fishing trip?  Look at that -- all set up nice and cozy inside, to make up from their little spat here.  And a lantern hanging.  This is cool to see.

I don't remember seeing this scene from this angle before either - despite the fraught scene it's depicting between Ennis and Jack, it's a fascinating insight into the set up of their "home" when they were together....and showed how wealthy Jack had become.

I so hope that we get to see all the missing scenes one day.  I'll always cherish the film we have, but it would be so nice to see those missing links...

Like others, I've never seen this shot before, mpj. Can you tell us where you found it? Is there more to come?

I once wrote to Criterion, urging them to bring out  an edition of Brokeback Mountain as they had done for Ang Lee's The Ice Storm  but I never heard back from them. If people here haven't seen this edition of The Ice Storm, please do. It includes a two hour discussion between Ang Lee and James Schamus of almost every shot in the movie. I'm sure, if they prepared a similar edition of Brokeback, much of this missing material would probably surface.

Thanks for posting this rdx.  I have seen the "rifle" scene pic before, but I have never read the actual script from that deleted scene before, so it all makes sense to me now - although its just so very sad

Oh yes, wildcat!  Thank you!  This is fabulous.  I remember for so long, my eyes were on Ennis, and it was a few viewings before I looked at Jack, and it is so telling.  Such a subtle show of hugely meaningful emotion.  The way he does NOT look, the way he swallows.
