God, even before I saw a frame of the film, that smile was devastingly beautiful. Ennis became alive at that moment, and that's what I'll remember of him, those few seconds of that smile.
I know this is a very heartbreaking scene, and I don’t know if it is because of my passion for older Ennis, but, in the middle of the rough sea of sadness with my heart so broken, I can’t help smiling when Ennis said to Mama Twist that he can’t ate cake....
His face, Jesus, his face there….He was trying to smile to Mama Twist, grateful for her kind offering, and his voice was so sweet and shy, but he was so sad that he failed miserably in his attempt to smile. That’s endearing. <^( <^( <^( <^( Then, when OMT said that Jack used to talk about Ennis, he looked again delicious, with a hint of a little smile in his face, eyes full of love and regret, but still full of surprise, pride and joy because now he knew for sure that his little darling had never quit dreaming about their life together and even he had talked about that to his very cruel father. Ennis looks like he was thinking “Jack f***ing Twist, you crazy fool, you never gave up, right?”. I mean, someone can tell you that you look nice and that for sure is something we like, even if you believe it or not; but when someone else tell us that “that very person” has told him/her that you look beautiful it’s something different, right? Like if it’s more special when someone shares precious things about you with somebody else.
In spite of all that immensely unbearable pain, Ennis just for a brief moment was genuinely happy finding new things about his Jack, realizing that Jack truly wanted to live with him and thought about him every time, every day, every moment. I think Ennis learned that while he kept Jack like a dark secret, Jack spoke about him to Lureen (BBM was his favourite place) and to his parents too, admitting something as important and intimate as he want to share his life with Ennis. I’ll say it again, I can see pride there, yes, he was proud of his brave Jack there, because you have to be so brave to keep fighting for a dream during 20 years even when your partner keep saying no.
Ennis was so damn moved; that was so unexpected, he didn’t see it coming, and he was between the smile and the tears, and his face there is one of the most marvelous thing I’ve ever seen. **sigh** Melts my entire being. Not cute, but f***ing BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! <^( <^( <^( <^(

Now I really feel like a true brokie here :ghug: I cant believe how much some of the same moments mean something different to everyone and the same too but i like the word "intense" because Is there anything sexier than an intense Ennis I forgot to add the final confrontation with Jack when he gets in his face and gives him the "you been to Mexico huh Jack Twist" that was intense and hot (t) all at the same time because I saw that scene meaning very different things but I also saw a jealous streak from Ennis at that moment which just screams that Jack means more to him than to some occasional jump off

I always felt that Ennis had ALOT of equipment , a pole, a net, creel case , etc, not to have caught one fish! :f) :c) I think Alma said the price tag was still on it, the line never touched water in it's life. With limited time together as they had , I doubt "fishing" was their first priority.Creating intimate memorable moments was perhaps time better spent. Alma felt the earthquake too its why she came to the door. To see what happened.

I'm with both of you also.Ennis was his worst enemy in the end,because he had preferred to spend 4 years surely suffering for his lost love,instead of facing his feelings and fighting for them.Taking the initiative would have been for him being naked before society in these feelings; and that would have been too much for him,mainly in these first momens of their relationship.We mustn't forget that after 20 years he was so afraid and doubting as in the beginning.Such a pity ˇ. :-\\

Ennis suffered his whole life with his feras that he could not make himself live a life he actually wanted...The few moments that they both have spend together r out of the world..The moments when their friendship developed and their love was blossomed in the SNIT and then Reunion Scenes r so beautiful ...I think these moments bring a smile to our faces and after that what follows r the regrets and sufferings :\'( :\'(

I watched part of the DVD again the other night, and I LOVE Heath's sexy voice when he says "c'mere" to Jack right before the reunion kiss. Who could resist him? ^-^
I thought of another cute one - at least I think it's kinda cute:
The scene where Alma tells Ennis he got a postcard from Jack - Ennis washes his hands in the kitchen sink - presumably because he just got home from work - there's a towel on the counter right next to him but he doesn't use it, just shakes the water off his hands and then wipes them on his jeans - that just strikes me as so cute, like he's so used to making do without luxuries like towels from all the time he's spent on ranches and in camp. A rough around the edges guy but with the softest heart in the world <^(

Then a little laugh, after Jack falls back on his ass, chuckling,Ennis smiles and says 'I think my dad was right.' so cute !! All the scene was adorable :)

But at the moment I think the cutest is when they're in motel, Jack asks Ennis "How about you?" Ennis mumbles "Me? I don't know..." He rubs his eye on his thumb and smiles and looks so happy to be with Jack again... That face is just so cute!
It was cute because he seemd so bashful -- not wanting to be the subject of the discussion. It exhibits a charming self-deprecation, correct?
Maybe he thought that there's nothing much to tell after Jack's story. Probably felt how his life is boring and not interesting. Just in Ennis's shy manner.
Or perhaps he just didn't want to be the subject of the conversation. And yes, perhaps he thought he was not interesting enough. :)
Now when you say that, i occurred to me - wasn't he look upon Jack in general? It is possible that Jack's attitude and open character was something that he didn't only like and love, but deeply admire to, regarding himself as a less worthy?? Or this is a long shot?
Yes, and I also think Ennis began to appreciate Jack then because he felt that this guy really cared and was interested in him.
As a young introverted boy, maybe he never got so warm acceptance as from Jack.
Each of them had just what the other one needed, but both were short of love and understanding and both were willing to give love.
Because his upbringing was so lonely (as Alma said), I think that he probably never did get such a warm acceptance from anybody.
Jack was probably the first real "friend" that Ennis had ever had. He was so shy that he wouldn't let anyone inside his world of lonliness. :(
I also think so and I think that it is very sad. :\'(
Thinking of that, it is very possible that not only the childhood fear led him through his decisions, but also his lonely and difficult childhood during which he developed the endurance and stoicism, determined his later stubbornness.

IMO, the stoicism was a self-defense mechanism. It was a way of coping, especially after such a traumatic and lonely childhood.
I agree. He was the first person I think who Ennis allowed inside his psyche, so to speak.
