Just came back from my 3rd viewing tonight, and boo-hoo'ed all through the movie. It seems like the more I see it and the better I get to know it, the more sensitized I get to Ennis & Jack's pain and loss. At the same time, I really treasure those times, early in the movie, when they're together and happy.

Anyway, I was watching closely tonight, and I caught a discrepancy with this exhange:
Quote
Jack Twist: Jack Twist.
Ennis Del Mar: Ennis.
Jack Twist: Your parents just stopped at Ennis?
Ennis Del Mar: Ennis Del Mar.

In the movie, what Jack actually says is, "Your folks just stopped at Ennis?"

That sounds much more realistic for two uneducated, inarticulate boys from out West.

Yep!

Do you think the line about "if i come to know them" was showing his feelings?  I find that enigmatical myself.

I think so. It is a typical response from Ennis who longs for attachment with Jack but could not deal with his unfaithfulness. Ennis is a violent person and that is how it copes with his emotion.

I like the way you put that ... I think Ennis was privately hurt that Jack was seeing someone else who he might be physically attracted too ... someone who could potentially replace himself.  However, Ennis masks this as being homophobia due to his own insecurities ... it kinda makes you wanna hug both of them really.  :-\

For my english class I hafta choose a movie I wanna analyze and write about. Problem is you need access to the movie so you can get all the dialogue and scenes right. I loved Brokeback Mountain so much I couldn't do any other movie, but it would help if I could see the script. Anybody know where I can get that?

This is from the book, but I loved it because it demonstrated Ennis and Jack's intimacy and Ennis' crazy, complicated love for Jack,

"...Ennis (to Jack), not big on endearments, said what he said to his horses and daughters, little darlin."
Like vast clouds of steam from thermal springs in winter the years of things unsaid and now unsayable -- admissions, declarations, shames, guilts, fears -- rose around them. Ennis stood as if heart-shot, face grey and deep-lined, grimacing, eyes screwed shut, fists clenched, legs caving, hit the ground on his knees.

Jack: Anything interesting up there in heaven?

Ennis: I was just sending up a prayer of thanks.
   ;D ;D ;D

Oh mine..who would have thought Ennis could give such humorous response? Only to his beloved Jack. Jack was his kingdom.

This is from the book:

"Shot a coyote just first light," he told Jack the next evening, sloshing his face with hot water, lathering up soap and hoping his razor had some cut left in it, while Jack peeled potatoes. "Big son of a bitch. Balls on him size a apples. I bet he'd took a few lambs. Looked like he could a eat a camel. You want some a this hot water?

Why would a man without latent homosexual tendencies make such a comment?  Or maybe he wasjust 'feeling' Jack out...

This line always cracks me up.  Hopefully I remember it right; I don't have the screenplay book with me.

Ennis:  "The farthest I have ever been is around the coffee pot searching for the handle".

I like that one too, I think it also has something like "the farthest I have ever *traveled* is..." cause Jack is bringing up Mexico again.

When I get home I am going to look up that line in the Screenplay book.  It has been in my head all day at work.

I don't think this is in the movie. Hard to imagine, indeed. Now I can understand why Jack said

"Measure the f***in short leash you keep me on, then ask me about Mexico and then tell me you'll kill me for needin somethin I don't hardly never get. You have no idea how bad it gets." :'( :'( :'(

It also further explains

"I'm not you. I can't make it on a coupld of high-altitude f***s once or twice a year."  :o :o :o

"I wish I knew how to quit you!" -- the line sums up just how strong their bond is despite years of struggle and only brief moments of being together. Jack, despite him being the more 'sexual' one, going as far as to cheat with others for what he 'needs', can't find ANY kind of substitute for Ennis. It's incredible, a shollow-man so deeply rooted in his far-away highly unlikely relationship -- that's beyond true love.
