Jack throws his lasso around Ennis.

Ennis takes Jack's lasso off, stands up, and walks away, tucking in his shirt.

Jack swings his lasso on to the ground in front of Ennis who steps into it.

Jack pulls it tight causing Ennis to fall, says:  there you go, and laughs.

Ennis pulls on the lasso, causing Jack to fall, replies:  this ain't no rodeo, cowboy...

They begin to wrestle, Jack laughing, but Ennis more serious.

The two boys get into all kinds of semi-sexual, semi-violent wrestling and tumbling with chokeholds and head slamming. First Jack has the upper hand and is on top, then Ennis rolls him over and takes the top position, slamming Jack into the ground. Then Jack gets Ennis in a chokehold which brings them to their feet still entangled. As they break free Jack slips, accidentally bloodying Ennis’s nose with his knee. As soon as Jack realizes what he’s done he approaches Ennis, puts his arms around his head and tries to calm him and comfort him:

JACK: Ennis, Ennis, . . . Ennis. Come here – you’re OK, you’re OK.

He tries to stanch the blood with his sleeve as Ennis is snorting and puffing. He tries to shush Ennis. Ennis suddenly comes alive and, rearing back swings at the unexpectant Jack, knocking him on the ground.

JACK: grabbing his head Ohhhh. . .  Ohhh. . . .

Ennis turns away, still snorting and spitting blood. Grabs his hat, glances at and then leaves the dazed and wounded Jack lying and moaning on the ground.

New scene:

The sheep are on the move, being brought down.  The boys have changed their shirts  ;).

Jack looks pissed (who can blame him!).  He rides his grullo with his left hand on the reins.  But their ain't no harmonica on this trip. 

He works up a wad of saliva in his mouth and turns his head to spit on the ground right before Ennis crosses the same spot.  When Jack turns his head, we notice that he has a bruise on his temple.  It is the shape of a heart.  <^(

Next scene: We see the sheep being counted by the Chilean shepards and Aguirre rather pissed,while the two boys are leaned on a fence.Both are very serious and silent;Aguirre speaks for them.

-Aguirre : -Some of these never went up there with you. Count ain't what I'd hoped for, neither. You ranch stiffs, you ain't never no good

As Aguirre bellyaches - both boys are deep in their own thoughts . . .

   Jack: Hell I know a ranch stiff that did a fine job . . .
   Ennis: Huh? Ranch stiffs? How the f*ck did Aguirre know?
   Ennis takes a glance back at Aguirre wonderin’ WTF?


New scene Aguirre's parkin' lot, center screen we see Ennis’s blue jean covered butt :d) as he leans under the hood of Jack’s truck, he’s pretty sure he can fix it.

ENNIS: You wanna’ give it some gas . . .

Motor roars to life, Ennis slams shut the hood picks up his flour sack full of clothes.

Ennis says: "I can’t believe I left my damn shirt up there." Jack: "Ya." He leans on the door of the truck. " You gonna do this again next summer?". Ennis continues to search the bag and says: "Well, maybe not.Like I said,me and Alma’s gettin’ married in November.So...". Jack looks at him and and his eyes tell all. :_( Ennis: "I’ll try to get something on a ranch, I guess.You?" Jack: "Might go up to my daddy’s place.Give him a hand during winter.I might be back.If the army don’t get me." Ennis: "Well, I guess I’ll see you around, huh?" Jack : "Right." He bends his head.They look at each other, then Ennis goes with his bag. Jack entered the truck,drive it and bypasses Ennis.He looks into the mirror truck, sees him and sighed. His view is full of suffering and longing. :_(

The scene changes to an alleyway where we see Ennis pass by on the sidewalk, flour sack slung over his right shoulder. 

But wait! 

Something comes over him... he doesn't pass by. 

Instead we realize he has lost the true love of his life, his eternal soul mate. 

Unfortunately, Ennis just thinks he ate something bad in Dubois. 

He steps into the alley, puts his left hand on the wall, hunkers down and begins to heave...

Ennis pounds the wall of the alley where he kneels with his bare fists. First cursing and shouting, eventually crying and sobbing. A lone cowboy wanders by, looks at the crumpled Ennis wondering whether to help him or not. Ennis shouts in anger:

What the fu*k you lookin' at, huh?

New scene.  Ennis and Alma are sledding down a snowy hill.  The sled overturns and both are toppled over.  

Ennis: You alright?  

They horse around and fling snow at each other

New scene:   Ennis is laying asphalt on a road with another worker.

Worker:  My old lady's tryin' to get me to quit this job!  Says I'm gettin' too old to be breakin' my back shoveling asphalt...I told her strong backs & weak minds runs in the family. 

He laughs and continues:  She didn't think that was too funny.  I told her it keeps me fit!

Ennis, distracted, looks out in the distance but doesn't reply...

Pulled in last night? Didn't want to wake you up.

I thought I'd tell you before the Sergeant showed up. Parking this trailer on the beach is illegal.

Ennis has his arm around Alma,who catches his hand and puts it over her belly; she's pregnant.Ennis doesn't seem too moved... ;)

Jack's crappy old black truck sputters its way down the street in Signal, Wyoming.  He pulls right into the same parking spot he did last year.  But, this year, there's no Ennis Del Mar waiting outside Aguirre's trailer  :(

The old fat-assed Aguirre is sittin' at his desk readin' a magazine . . three bangs at the door . . .

AGUIRRE: Yeah? (the door opens and Jack Twist steps in) Well, look what the wind blew in.

JACK: Hi Mr. Aguirre. Wonderin' if you needed any help this summer.

AGUIRRE: You're wastin' your time here.

JACK: You ain't got nuthin' - nuthin' up on Brokeback?

AGUIRRE: Ain't got no work for you (gives Jack an evil stare).

Jack nods his head, thinks he understands the rejection notice he just got, heads for the door. Stops just short of the door, his curiosity and burning desire gets him (it's been a long truck ride, he needs relief), turns and asks Aguirre:

JACK: Ennis Del Mar ain't been around has he?

-Aguirre : -You boys sure found a way to make the time pass up there. Twist... you guys wasn't gettin' paid to leave the dogs baby-sit the sheep while you stemmed the rose. Now get the hell out of my trailer.

Jack leaves the trailer humiliated and sad.

New Scene.  Ennis enters the house and approaches Alma, who is wahing clothes by the kitchen sink.  Ennis holds her from behind.

New scene later that day in the rodeo bar. Jack Twist sitting by himself lickin' his wounds and drinkin' beer. Sees one of the good looking rodeo clowns, one that saved his ass earlier in the day, sit down across the bar. Jack saunters over to him, looks at the barkeep:

JACK: I'd like to buy Jimbo here a beer. Best damn rodeo clown I've ever worked with.

Jack cracks his best smile, Jimbo smiles back, then sees the look in Jack's eye.
The two look at each other with an uneasy electricity.

JIMBO: No thanks cowboy, If I'd let every rodeohand I'd pulled a bull off of buy me liquor I'd been an alcoholic long ago. Pullin' bulls off you buckaroos is just my job. Save your money for your next entry fee cowboy.

Jimbo puts down his money, looks Jack in the eye. Walks away over to the pool table with the other cowboys.

Jack sits dejected at the bar.

Jimbo points his thumb at Jack.  Jack is eyed suspiciously by the pool players.  For a second, we think he might get the crap beat out of him, but the tension is broken when the bartender speaks:

"You ever try calf roping?"
 
Jack rises and gives the bartender a look of disdain.  "Do I look like I can afford a f***ing roping horse?"

(what the heck is a roping horse?  other than something Jack can't afford?  ???  )

Jack walks out of the bar giving us a nice view of his butt.   :*(

Next scene: Ennis and Alma go to a country gathering with the little girls.They sit a little far from the crowd.

-Ennis:-Shouldn't we move a little closer?

-Alma : -No. Come on, let's don't. Jenny'll get scared.

All of a sudden,two bikers arrive and sit near the Del Mar family,beginning to say nonsenses and making a fuss.

-Biker 1 : -Look at this crowd. Bound to be a lot of pussy on the hoof in a crowd like this.

-Biker 2 : -All swelled up with patriotic feeling and ready to be humped like a frog.

A ropin’ horse is the horse ridden during the calf roping event in rodeo. The horse must be well trained to take instructions from the rider and the two must work well together to be successful. Obviously Jack can barely afford a toothbrush let alone the means to support his own horse, a trailer, etc. Equipment-wise bullridin’ only takes tough bones and guts, so is open to any damn fool, huh?

Meanwhile, back at the Fourth of July celebration, the bikers are causing a ruckus!

"Where do you figure the most pussy's at?  Las Vegas or California?" says one.

"Between Montana or Wyoming, I'd take Wyoming," says another.

Ennis, faced with parenting two little girls, decides he must put a fatherly word in with the bikers.
