Topic: Your Favorite Scene of the Movie - (possible spoiler)

BBM will always be that opening scene: Jack looking for Ennis eyes, and Ennis don’t wanting to meet Jack’s eyes, everything like a metaphor of their lifes, Jack looking for Ennis love and acceptation, Ennis running away from that love. Black resistol, black old truck; blue denim, blue shirt; white hat, paper bag; lack of words; eyes up, eyes down; cigarettes and dust; nice to know you Ennis del Mar. That’s for me BBM.

Yep these three scenes shows that they do indeed complete each other. Leaves no doubt that they are in love with each other.
SNIT ( my fav)  to me is a culmination of all that has transpired so far. Now they are both sure that love has found them, and they both embrace it. An acknowledgement that something "special" has taken place between them.I can watch this scene all day long and never tire of it.  "sigh"....

Yeah, that just has to be the best scene for me. It's so beautiful, so sweet, so romantic, and you can just feel how much they truly love each other.

My favorite scene has to be the one close to the end, where Jack says, "This is one goddamn bitch of an unsatisfactory situation." And Ennis collapses crying in Jack's arms. That scene completely breaks my heart every single time. I can't even watch it anymore. It's so emotionally moving.

i agree also and the way this scene is combined with the dozy embrace just... :\'(
some of the stuff said in the confrontation just attacks my heart like hot irons are being rammed into my chest,
some words i find especially powerful and destructivly sad :- (they arent in order or correspondednce im just putting the lines in any order)

ennis-"why dont you? why dont you just let me be huh?, its because of you im like this"

This, together with the Dozy Embrace, make up the most intense and wonderful section in the movie, IMO.

I never tire of saying how much the DE gets to me -- so I think I have an inkling of how much it affects you also...

After viewing number four, I have a new favorite: Ennis in the trailer with Jr. at the end. He asks Jr. if her husband to be loves her and for a split second, looks off and all the pain and anguish of what he had and lost is etched in his face. It is so powerful. Especially given that this actor is 25 years old! When Jr. replies, "yes, daddy he does" or something to that affect, Ang Lee goes back to Ennis and shows him turn back to his daughter with a look of contentment. Saying with his eyes, "at least she has a shot at the happy ending".

The other is the extreme close up of Lureen describing Jack's death. Her almost clinical reportage of the circumstances begin to melt away slightly and at the end her eyes are brimming with tears.  It is a bizzare visage of bleached blonde hair red fingernails, and tear filled eyes. Very moving to me.

And then there are there is the simple gesture of Jack touching Ennis's cheek while they are by the campfire. It is either before or after the "It could be like this. Just like this speech"  God, I well up just thinking about it.

Those are all quite memorable, Bruce.  I always felt that Lureen really did love Jack, although time and daily responsibilities put a distance between them ( as well as Jack's real love, Ennis).  I also always felt the scene when Ennis collapses in the shed to be gut-wrenching.  No one could have played that scene with such convincing anguish.  Good choices, I think!

In fact, I think in the beginning, she was more in love with him than Jack was with her.  I think this is also true with Ennis and Alma.

The things that makes the scenes showing Ennis and Jack with their spouses both poigniant and beautiful are:

1.  You could see that their spouses loved them more than they loved their spouses -- at least in the beginning.

2.  You could see that both Ennis and Jack were still thinking about each other.

1. Jack looking thoughtful as he danced with Lureen.

2. Ennis looking out to the horizon while he paused momentarily from laying asphalt on the road.

That is a great choice.  That scene is also close to the top of my list.  I think we see the first time when both of them allows each other to somehow express their love for each other on all levels.

Maybe more than being underappreciated is "almost invisible",rather fast and in the middle of some other more important scenes-more important for the tragedy's development,I mean...-.However,it has an importance,because it's one of the few tenderness and love proofs we can find in older Ennis and Jack;not only with words and glances,but with actions,in a more physical way.It's what we have talked about several times before:the need of seeming like a couple of lovers and not only of friends in their older ages.And,moreover,it's the last night they spent together...

MPJ, I so agree.  We really needed to see more affection during this time period, and this was all we saw, and too briefly.  It's so beautiful, anyway.

Hey B, bounce in any time you like! This scene is my favorite too... Ennis finally surrendering to his feelings. It's one of the most beautiful scenes I've ever seen on screen, and it still gives me tingles too. What strikes me the most is Ennis's expression when Jack holds him, the way he closes his eyes and caresses Jack's body like a blind man, touching another man's body like that for the first time. It brings a lump to my throat.

I didn't watch it, so I don't know.  So they didn't show SNIT, but they showed FNIT??  Weird, if you ask me.  Or do they think they can show the "rough" side of m/m sex, but not the sweet and tender?
