There certainly seems to be an affinity between the last scene and the dozy embrace. They are like valedictory scenes -- not exactly bookends, but certainly summations of a sort. Both are very beautiful taken seperately, or with each other.

Yep. There's somethin' special about these two scenes. Hell, there's somethin' special about this entire movie period. But these two scenes kind of sums up what each men feels or desires. One wants to be love and held. He wants that sweet life. The other seems to live in fear and regrets, although he has that love but afraid to give.

I don't recall if i have allready posted on this thread, but i'll post again

There are so many favorites.. happy and sad scenes.

1. The reunion scene. You can see their both soo happy that they finally meet again. *damn, four years..*

2. The scene where Jack and Ennis are sitting on the fireplace and Jack says: Sometimes i miss you so much i can hardly stand it. :\'(

3. The SNIT and FNIT scenes. No explanations, you know why

There are so many favorites, but this one is my true favorite.

They are together and they are in love and each others arms, nothing else matters..

My heart aches everytime i watch this scene and i'm like this :\'( I can only think that why it couln't be just like this, always..

Love and regret. Love and death.

Great themes. They have been around for thousands of years, but they never cease to move us as human beings. And those 2 scenes in BBM are as good as any of the immortal ones, IMO. They will be remembered.

I love these 3 that you mention. But I can hardly bear to see 2. and all that follows in that last meeting. I am still divided whether I can call these sad scenes "favorites". For me, they are the "great" BBM scenes.

I love the scene after the Reunion in the motel, Ennis in Jacks arms. Jack gave him a tender kiss on the forehead. The beginning: Four years, damn. Yeah, four years. I melt down every time I see this one.

And looking back on it, I think this scene by the lake is my favourite, from Ennis staring happily at the stars, in the company of the one person he truly loves and feeling content at last, to his admission to Jack about why he is so scared. And Jack, instead of telling him he is a coward, or trying to convice him to change his mind, simply strokes his cheek and runs his fingers through his hair. Nothing needs to be said, but they both know that they're committed to each other from now on. Well...is that the right way of phrasing it?

God, this is annoying. I sign up to ennisjack.com in the hopes to really let out all of my mad, incoherent feelings about Brokeback Mountain and I find I can't express them properly. Should I be worried?

You're doing just fine, Curlyone. I think we all have emotional moments when thinking about certain scenes - I struggle to put my feelings about this scene into words too. It's just so beautiful and sad....makes me want to reach out and hug Ennis to take away his pain, and Jack to take away the heartache that Ennis's refusal brings on him.

We all have to be patient with ourselves, especially when emotions become too strong. There is nothing to be ashamed of. It is wonderful to be moved by a love and a story. It is so wonderful to be fully alive.

Their most beautiful scenes together were sexless. That was why it moves me to see them asleep (with one embracing the other) in their final meeting. That is why the dozy embrace moves me. There is only a hint of desire; there is primarily a sense of being one.

That's why I love the "Dosy embrace" so much. It's pure love and yet satisfies the hunger in both of them. Most scenes in this movie have actions which speak way louder than words--the reunion scenes, the dosy embrace, the two shirt scene...

Particularly the brif one of them asleep together during the last period on the mountain is one that shows their vulnerability. Someone once said that going to sleep in the same bed as another person and waking up beside them in the morning was the most intimate thing you could do; this is true of this shot, I think.

This scene is one of the most beautiful moments of intimacy in the film. In some ways, it equals, if not exceeds, the beautiful SNIT. It is subtle, quiet, poignant.

This is so true. And what else I love about this scene is that they are the older men. I can't say in words exactly why, but this makes their intimacy even more beautiful to me.
