Jack knew that ennis loved him..he knew how Ennis feels but he also knew that Ennis would not speak about his feelings literally...so he just wanted to feel ennis love in the DE...The other way to emote love apart from talking is through gestures and emotions..I think that there was a huger impact in the silence..he could feel Ennis heart beats and could feel his heart surrounded by pure love....I think words were futile at that time because it was too precious and heartfelt for words <^( <^(

You know (even though the ss doesn't say it explicitly) I do think they felt each other's hearts beat as one.  Or perhaps I am incurably romantic...

Wow..thats simply beautiful..them feeling each others heart beat is like one body and one soul....I think that day by day am falling more and more in love with DE   <^( <^(

Both were calm but I think deep down inside there was an ocean of emotions flowing..They just wanted the world to come to a standstill and just never to stop feeling each other
it is so romantic and am smiling right now thinking about it :) :)

I never thought of myself as a romantic person, just the opposite. But influence of this universal story on me is unbelievable. I don't take it as a mere ode to homo or other sexuality. It is a deeply sad love story that implies so many layers - human's needs, moral, friendship, relation to nature, fighting fears, fighting human's passion and much much more...

On the other hand, when I think of E&J love I become so moved... much more than I was ever moved with my own love  *^)  :i

Still ask myself WHY??  :gnight:

Although that reunion kiss scene is the most gut wrenching, heart warming and passionate thing I have seen for years and it warms me to my core every time I see it, there is another scene of the movie which I rank way way up there.

When they both come down off BBM and are heading their separate ways, and Jack's eyes are pleading with Ennis to say yes, when he asks him if he'll be back next year.........I love Jake Gyllenhaal most for the emotions he portrays in that look. Once you know Jack's back story with his parents and all, you can see in this wordless pleading that in that summer Jack has experienced love for the very first time in his life (not just sex) and that he just doesn't want it to come to an end.

Maybe it's just the way I read it, the looks are silent, but I can hear Jack screaming in my head for Ennis to stay with him. I love this whole scene, it reminds me of times when I should have just said things out loud in similar situation and I recognise all of Jack's pain, his desperation, his hopes and his love. Wonderful scene and a definite favourite of mine (though there is not a scene I don't like).
Actually, "life does get better than this"

Thanks friends.  :)   I think the DE is a truly special scene, and it makes us react in a special; way.

Well, like you, I doesn't think of myself as a romantic person, but I think there is strong romantic aspect in the love of E & J that makes us react the way we do.  It is in the great tradition of star-crossed lovers, and the fact that they go against fate brings out the dreamer in us...

This is certainly both moving and difficult for me.  And I agree that Jack's look in that scene shouts out louder than any grad gesture or melodramatic acting.  It makes the heart really ache to see him plead silently.

The scene itself is great, but it is the most important point in their lives where they separate. Lovely days on Brokeback were over! Therefore, I find it painful and sad.

Jack's eyes are incredible talkative indeed, and also his hat covering his eyes when they cautiously reflect all his intimacy. Jake did this marvelously! (:)

Yes,Loreen, you're right¡ I dare to say that this only scene-altogether with the DE- worths the whole movie by themselves.
Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Jack smiled sad. “Yeah, Ennis. Love.” Leaned forward and kissed Ennis’s temple, whispered, “What’d you think it was, all this time?”

I agree, Tom -- beautifully heart-wrenching scene, and particularly that look of Jack's as you describe.  Such a momentous turning point, one way or another, yet it turned out as it did.

But Ennis also in that scene -- he wasn't eager to part, either.  Very painful for him, you can see, and maybe even more so than Jack, as he was so unused to even saying much, let alone expressing his feelings.  He didn't see a way, in his limited life view, to ever see Jack again.  And obviously, it was literally gut-wrenching for him.

I recall so well the first time I saw it in the theater, watching them in the beginning of that parting scene and wondering so strongly what was going to happen right in those moments...  Guess I'll see you around, then was so painful for me.

But this is thread on Favorite Scenes, so let's see, how can I make this a favorite?  They are both so hot and beautiful!  And I love how Ennis can fix the truck.

Quite so!  As Tom also mentioned.  If I wasn't already smitten with Jake Gyllenhaal in this movie, that moment did it -- his eyes, the pleading in them.  That lift of his eyebrows.  Was that when he said "Gonna do this again next summer?"

The Dozy Embrace -- the flashback at the end of the FC, the Final Confrontation.  Don't be ashamed!!  Actually, I kept scratching my head over "FC" for a while -- I always just called it the Confrontation.  But you can't acronym that :)

My fav scene is SNIT, but the reunion scene comes a very, very, very close second for it powerful symbolic meaning alone!. Frankly I've lost count of how many times I've watched it.  Both thumbs  so up for Jake G's excellent acting here. The look on Jack's face immediately after Ennis kisses him if just so full of E.M.O.T.I.O.N <^(....and so many all at once. As  far as I'm concerned this is  the standard by which I will judge any other true love scene from now on. So far, nothing has come close imo.

Kathy, thanks for DE!

As for the scene, yes! When he asked if Ennis is going to go to Brokeback next summer, his eyes were adorably vulnerable... I don't know how Ennis resisted.  ???

And when Ennis was about to leave, Jack put his head down, wanting to hide his pain, but immediately looks up... maybe hoping that Ennis could have changed his mind and stayed! Dear Jack!  :\'(

The reunion kiss and SNIT r my all time favorite
Reunion kiss is passionate and explosion of love and all repressed feelings...It shows how much they love each other and 4 years of seperation expressed...4 long long years without your true love...it was so intense and heart felt <^(
SNIT is acknowledgement of true love expressed with tender and genuine affection...It was a beautiful night <^(

That reunion kiss is a real killer for me  :i , as I don't feel the same about kissing after seeing it! That kiss changed something  in myself... As I already said, all the intimate scenes between them are far too short for me now! I just NEED MORE! That kind of beauty, feelins, passion.... ! OMG! Really makes me tremble... but always with that innuendo of the tragedy that is waiting as a thief, thief who is going to steel our happiness! (t) (t)  :\'(

I completely agree and as I said we find it short as we want to see more and more of Ennis and Jack...One more reason I feel we find it short is that we know the suffering that will follow ..we know that we will be hurt, in pain and will be broken to see the end of the movie..that is why we unconsciously as well as consciously want them to be more and more together...we want them to spend more and more time and have a lot of cherished memories….

Reunion scene awakens hope in their hearts and our my hearts…Although what follows after that shatters us...So I hold on to the reunion scene as a great comforter to my heart and soul..Its one moment of happiness and contentment that Ennis and Jack felt..Its so dear to them and to us… :ghug:

This wasn't a moment for a gentle halfwarm kisses, for their meeting after 4 years was a short time to redeem all the past time suffering without eachother! They did it marveoulsy! But Lee cut it too short...  ^*)

How they missed each other, in emotional and physical way? How they long to see each other, to touch each other, to kiss each other, to see each other eyes and to feel the same as they did 1963, when they discover the real love and sexual passion?!

All this we saw in that kiss. It wasn't a violence, it was the reflection of their wishes and their feelings.

Speaking of that, I must praise Jake here, not only for that unforgetable expression durin the reunion kiss, but also during his short conversation with Alma! I could sense his emotions in that moment.  (:)

 :^^)

If there is one word to describe that kiss, it would be "bruising", don't you agree?

Yes, I love the sheer surprise in Jake's/Jack's face at the moment of that kiss.  Sometimes, I wonder whether that face showed rel-life surprise, at the "violence" of the assault.  After all, he did say later that heath nearly broke his nose!  :)

My English is not that good to express something so impressive as a reunion kiss in only one word. I'll rather leave that to a native speakers.  :)

But I'd like to discus about Jack's face after the Ennis's strike - I believe that his expression says says: OMG, there is so much feeling in Ennis for me. And I was suffering so many years, ridiculed by a stupid clown, humiliated by my father and ignored by my father in law. What was I thinking? This is the man I want to be with! This is my LOVE!  <^(  <^(  <^(

Gorgeous!  I love it how you tie this in with all the rejection Jack must have suffered from -- as epitomized by the rodeo clown episode.  That as beautifully expressed, loreen.
