Heath is always in my heart. I don't have to feel sad or to cry in order to know that he's there. I hardly cry now... although I still get goosebumps when I think back on that terrible night when I just heard the news, the reports and the pictures that kept pouring from the tv, the awful shock. One of the worst nights of my life. But I don't have to be in a state of shock and sadness and choked up with tears as a proof that I remember him, all the time. And I don't have to think about him all the time to know that he's in my heart. Although there isn't a day when I don't think of him. I loved him a lot, I still do, I guess I always will. More than anything else I wish I could've known him in real life, but in some way I feel that I do.

this is how i feel...but i have moments when i cant stop crying :\'(
I love and miss him so much.

Well said Keren, you are right, you don't have to cry all the time to feel someone in your heart.
I don't cry much either...I cry when I see him in BBM, because that is THE movie and that is THE role Heath played that changed my life so much.
But I can imagine if you stand there in front of that painting... it's such a overwhelming feeling that it brings tears to your eyes.

Hi, thanks again for all your encouragement, mpj, tammy, anaconda.

I really have no choice about this thing that keeps me going with...obsessing over Heath. This morning on the bus, I drifted off thinking about Four Feathers somehow, and recalled the last scene when Jack touched Harry, just as he did in the desert. Without giving away the movie, I just broke down and almost cried right there in front of a packed bus of passengers. I try not to think of any of the powerful, emotional scenes during the day.

I have been playing Rascal Flatt's song, My Wish, over and over, and one part of it in particular makes me think of Heath, the happy smiling Ennis, the picture on the tribute to me.

If it's cold outside,
Show the world the warmth of your smile.

That's Heath. That's what I try to emulate, each and everyday.

It is what gets me through the day.
Heath, you are loved, like this, always.

Watching Four Feathers with the director's commentary, I heard something that we already know, and I paraphrase:

The difference between an actor and a great actor is what he can put behind a simple line, all the emotions and subtext that goes with it, and Heath is a great actor.

He also talked about the deep friendship Heath developed with Wes Bentley and Djimon Hounsou, and how after a successful ninth take of an emotionally powerful scene with Djimon Hounsou, Heath asked him as a favor to do a tenth. And it was done Heath's way in the final cut because all the emotions in it were so much more powerful.

In two scenes with Wes Bentley, the two of them were so immersed in each other's performances, that time went unnoticed until the scene was done. And when the final five-page scene was cut to one page, the two of them protested, and "huddled" together for four hours, before performing the next morning. It was like the two shirts in Brokeback Mountain.

Then there is the scene with Ethne, at the end, when she said, "I love you, but I can't." The sadness and pain expressed on the quietly listening face of Heath, was comparable to his performance in the diner as Cassie ran out the door. Yet, the subtle differences revealed the character's long journey from military school through the desert in Africa.

Heath always brought something extra to all the roles he played.
Heath, you are loved, like this, always.

Thanks to everyone that posted something about my visit. When I first arrived there was a poster size pic of the portrait, I thought that maybe that was enough and I could leave but I knew I had to go into the gallery to see the actual portrait, not only for myself but for all of you and yes I did think of you all.  :)

Beautiful posts, beautiful tributes. ^f^

Asali, it feels like a little piece of all of us was there with you in the gallery. Thanks for taking us along. :ghug:

Very nice. :)

The most consistent thing I hear when I read the posts in this thread is "He is always in my heart", whether we say it specifically or just by the way we remember him and speak of him. That right there says a lot about the person he was.  :ghug:  :ghug: to everyone.

Tribute

I met Heath Ledger in 2000. I was working on From Hell and he was shooting A Knights Tale which were both being shot in and around Prague.

It was one of the best and worst times of my life - I was in a Hollywood movie, shooting scenes with Johnny Depp and Robbie Coltrane but behind all the glitz and the glamour there was a sour taste to the whole experience: I (unlike many of the other actors working on the film), had been out in Prague for nearly three months, it was lonely living out of a hotel room and I had terrible anxiety and self doubt with regards to my part in the movie itself - coupled with some unpleasant incidents on set, I felt very isolated and vulnerable.

One evening during that time, some of the actors from my film had arranged to meet some of the actors from the other film at a night spot in Prague and I happened to be in that very same bar when they arrived. Out of everyone who was there, it was Heath who asked me if I would like to join their party, some of the guys had said hello to me when they arrived and Heath had deduced I must have been working on the other film and that I was on my own.

I had a really great time that night, and on a couple occasions Heath invited me over to his apartment to hang out with his friends. It was on one of those occasions that this photo was taken. Heath had discovered that I was an artist and that I was also a photographer and he had with him an old bashed up camera which he handed to me and asked if I wouldn't mind taking some shots of him and Heather Graham.

That will be my enduring memory of him - how he was completely genuine and his startling kindness - he made me feel included when I had been excluded and made my memories of Prague a great deal happier than they might have been... I can't imagine how devastated the people who knew him well must be.

I wanted to share this with the dA community as it's been reported that far right extremists intend to picket and disrupt his funeral. Know this, Heath Ledger was a good person, a kind person: please don't let anyone persuade you otherwise. His loss should be mourned, not mocked.

Rest in peace Heath...

I think that what warms my heart the most is just this kind of personal tribute, these small stories of seemingly minor incidents that the people whose lives he touched recognized were not so small after all. He made them feel good. He took time to see them. And it meant enough to them that they were affected by it and remembered it. These things, these small gestures, are the mark of a person's character and the impact those things had on the people who knew him provide a better summary of who he was than any fancy news profile could ever do.

Thank you for sharing that. :ghug:

I think that it means "I hate that you're so unique you can't be replaced and I have this ache in my heart from losing you."

I'm glad too that we had him to love for as long as we had him, even if it means hurting now. :ghug:

I was in Tokyo last week and left a prayer for Heath at Meiji Shrine on behalf of ennisjack. It is hard to believe that it has been two months.

Hi Ethan, thank you for sharing your sensitive tribute from Japan.

Today I went to the city, the Art Gallery, stood looking at Heath's portrait, somewhat eerie/haunting, very difficult to grasp that it was the Heath we love. The hardest part was seeing the tiny tattoo with the name 'Matilda' below his left breast. When the tears started to well and the headache came over me I turned around and left, I couldn't concentrate on walking around seeing the other paintings.   :(

Oh Asali, I think I can understand what you felt as you were visiting the gallery.
I was there last year when visiting Australia, and just to imagine I could walk there today and find myself staring at this haunting portrait, give me goosebumps.
It must give the viewer such a different feeling than just seeing it on photo.
The other day I watched the interview with Fantauzzo on the gallery's website, and I could hardly keep my tears from flowing as he remembered what it was like having Heath sit for him...  :\'(
Thank you so much for sharing,
Paola

We have a song in Hebrew called "What shall I bless". It's about a guy who dies too young. In Israel this song associates with our many young soldiers who get killed in battles, and they play it every year on the radio on Rememberence Day. But it doesn't have to be about dying in a battle, it can be about any young guy who dies before his age. I remember it'd been read in my cousin's funeral, he was killed 21 years ago by an accident, he was only 23 years old.

Anyway, these lyrics remind me so much of Heath, I tried to translate them to English. I omitted one verse about the boy becoming a soldier, because it's not relevant to Heath at all, but the rest of the song just makes me think of Heath, I even have an image in my head to go with it.

What Shall I Bless

What shall I bless him, how shall he be blessed,
This kid? Asked the angel.
What shall I bless him, how shall he be blessed,
This kid? Asked the angel.

And blessed him with a smile which is like the light,
And blessed him with big, seeing eyes
To see every flower, living creature and bird
And a heart, to feel all the sights.

What shall I bless him, how shall he be blessed,
This teen? Asked the angel.
What shall I bless him, how shall he be blessed,
This teen? Asked the angel.

And blessed him with legs to dance to no end
And a soul to remember all the tunes
And a hand picking shells on the beach
And a listening ear for both grown-ups and kids.

What shall I bless him, how shall he be blessed,
This man? Asked the angel.
What shall I bless him, how shall he be blessed,
This man? Asked the angel.

I've given him all that I'm able to give
A song, and a smile, and legs to dance
And a gentle hand, and a shivering heart
And what shall I bless you more?

What shall I bless him, how shall he be blessed?
This kid? Asked the angel.
What shall I bless him, how shall he be blessed?
This kid, This young boy?

This boy, now he's an angel
No more shall he be blessed
God, God, God –
If only you've blessed him with life.

The truth is... sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it.

Amazing song,One of the saddest songs. And the lyrics are incredibly moving,
If only you've blessed him with life. if only...

I found a link from the original performance from the 70th...

I felt that last night, even though I could not recall any of it in the morning, I had a dream of being in the presence of Heath. It was not Ennis. I think it was my intense focus on Four Feathers, and the painting, to understand Heath better, and finally, all the weeks of news articles, tributes, and everything, all came together, and I saw the iceberg beneath the surface, I FELT the presence even in his absence. It is hard to explain, but for days I have been feeling this presence. I think I finally understand what it means, to always remember, to always have Heath in my heart. I hope this will never end.

Andrew - this is really beautiful  <^(  <^( and touching  :\'(  :\'(. I think you're a very sensitive person,
always attentive to feelings and emotions, and because of this I think you felt Heath's presence
for, very likely, he was there. You're able to listen, that's why you can feel so deeply. That's
             wonderful!  <^(

Beautiful post, Keren, I understand you. <^(  <^(  <^( from Megalyn08

you don't have to cry all the time to feel someone in your heart.
I cry when I see him in BBM, because that is THE movie

I feel the same, and I agree: Heath had, no he still has where he is now, a really beautiful smile, so I often remember him in a cheerful way, for he was a young man who undoubtedly loved his life. That warms my heart when I think of him.
