Will this ever be over. Ennis had all day to apologize for whatever he is supposed to be sorry for. Why at this moment in the tent scene. I cannot wait for DVD English version. This debate will be over.  If I am incorrect and Ennis actually says something I will have "Crash #1" tattooed to my body. That is how sure I am!

Where are you going to put the Crash tattoo bnjmn3? After my second or third viewing I heard the "I'm sorry" whispered by Ennis and the "it's alright" reply by Jack. I talked about it somewhere here but can't remember where.

Patriot1, thank you for your audio download. Once again I hear those 2 unscripted exchanges in the tent scene. I am surprised no one has yet mentioned the final hug between Ennis and Jack. When Ennis falls to his knees in Jack's arms he again breaths out something like "I can't stand it no more". Also not in the script. I think I am going to go see it again tonight one more time and will be listening very hard because there are a couple of other places I think I heard faint ad libbed lines. I think any of them were intended but were rather a result of the intensity of the scenes and the commitment of these 2 fine actors to that intensity.
There was some open space between what he knew and what he tried to believe, but nothing could be done about it, and if you can't fix it you've got to stand it.

Ennis, riding against the wind back to the sheep in the treacherous, drunken darken light, thought he'd never had such a good time, felt he could paw the white out of the moon.

Yes, that is right. Ennis colapses and says, "I just can't stand this any more Jack."

Heartbreaking.  :'(

I beg to differ it has been mentioned in an earlier thread in regard that I though people had forgotten how intense and mind boggling the last words of Ennis had spoken to Jack, it makes me cry every time I read anything to this matter , so here I go again get the Kleenex and wipes my tears
If my recollection serves me right it ougth be in the quotes earlier days

I think this is what you are talking about.  From the screenplay with stage directions:

JACK I'm not you.  I can't make it on a couple of high-altitude f***s one or twice a year.
(pause)
You're too much for me, Ennis, you son of a whoreson bitch.
(pause)
I wish I knew how to quit you.

WE PULL BACK NOW

Like vast close of steam from thermal springs in winter, the years of things unsaid and now unsayable--admissions, declaration, shames, guilts, fears--rise around them.

ENNIS stands as if heartshot, face gray and deep lined.  Fights a silent battle, grimaces.

ENNIS Then why don't you?! Why don't you let me be? It's because of you Jack, that I'm like this.  I'm nothin.  I'm nowhere.

JACK starts toward him, but ENNIS jerks away.

ENNIS (CONT'D) Get the f*** off me!

JACK moves toward him again, and this time ENNIS doesn't resist.

JACK Come here...it's all right.  It's all right...damn you, Ennis.

And then...they hug one another, a fierce, desperate embrace--managing to torque things almost to where they have been, for that they've just said is no news: as always, nothing ended, nothing begun, nothing resolved.

I was sure it had been, I just never saw it.  Watched tonight and I think it went, "I'm sorry, I just can't stand it anymore Jack."

Nancy: You can bet your last penny that what I said Ennis and Jack say is, in fact, what they say. I have offered to make the clip available to frog123 and if you have Windows Movie Maker and know how to use it I will make it available to you also.  Then, you can hear for yourselves. (Just barely)  If I had a way to get the music out and leave the dialog it would be much clearer.

Thank you very  much.  I don't have Windows Movie Maker, though.  This is exactly what I heard.  I was confused, because I didn't see Ennis' lips move, except to kiss of course!  You explained that in your later post.  sGlad to know I was right.  Thanks!                  - Nancy

Patriot1, is there a thread for the "deceased" post card. I finally caught it tonight, said, "Are we still on for November? I can meet you at Pine Creek."

I don't remember seeing a thread dealing just with Ennis' post card to Jack that came back.

I don't know. Should I? The post cards say a lot about the relationship. Maybe a thread on all 4 of them and the unseen ones.

I don't know if anyone heard this, but I can swear that when Alma, Jr. is talking about her wedding she says, Jr. is gonna sing and Monroe will cater.  Pretty insignificant, but I wonder if I heard wrong.  This doesn't make any sense?          - Nancy

I think a thread about the postcards would be interesting. We could compare what the story and the screenplay say about them and what they tell us about their relationship. I would say: go ahead, create a thread!

Alma: You know, your friend could come inside, have a cup of coffee...
Ennis: He's from Texas.
Alma: Texans don't drink coffee?

I also find this one very funny, but in the same time so sad, because I feel Alma's distress to see her husband letting her for a man, and yet triying to be polite with Jake (maybe to prevent them being alone together again)... :'(

Yeah, I share the sadness of the scene, too.  Alma's world has suddenly collapsed.  And yet the line is hysterical!  Pure McMurtry, 100%.  Another comical spotlight on the quirky Texans.  It's one of my favorite lines (among a several other dozens or so).
``[Jack and Ennis] taught all of us who made `Brokeback Mountain' so much about not just the gay men and women whose love is denied by society, but just as important, the greatness of love itself.'' -- Ang Lee

This thread is now so long that I've lost track of which has not yet been given.

Two sets (paraphrased):

The first:

Ennis: 'That's some high-class entertainment you got there, if you ask me.'

Jack (looking out into the distance): 'For all its worth.'

The second:

Ennis: 'This Kurt Fella, does he love you?'

Alma Jr. (visibly touched): 'Yes daddy...he loves me.'

[Ennis looks out the window, struggling against the immense pain of knowing what he will never ever have.]

Hi, I'm new here... and i love all the quotes I've read.  Here's one of my favorites... :-* ;D
"Jack fu**in' twist" -when Ennis and Jack finally see each other after 4 years, and they have that adorable embrace... Its just so touching, and they are both so Hot in that part! Then Ennis calls Jack "little darling" -its so cute, so affectionate compared to the way Ennis usually was!  :)

Ms Delmar that's probably my favorite, love it when Ennis says "Jack f*****g Twist.  He says it at least twice in the movie, maybe three times.  My 2nd favorite is Jacks's "I wish I knew how to quit you!"  Not so  much the words, but the way Jake delivers them.  There is so much agony in his voice.  It is so heartfelt!  Does anybody know if "Jack f*****g Twist" is in the script, or is that something Heath sort of ad libbed?  I get the feeling sometimes that some of their lines were ad libbed and Ang decided he liked them.  I can't remember specific instances, just a feeling.  Donna  :)

said by Ennis, after a discussion of how tired they were of eating beans and Jack suggested shooting a sheep:

"we're supposed to guard the sheep, not eat em"

This line caught me off guard; I thought it was funny!

Hi JerBear, yes that's funny.  Also, it is one of the three times I noticed  that Ennis sounds aggrivated with Jack.  Heath is such a good actor, he's great with voice inflection.  The other two times are when the sheep get mixed up and Jack says "F**k Aguirre", and when he tells Jack that maybe Alma would let him and Lureen adopt the girls.  He says something like "That's real smart, Jack.!  then he says "Jack f*****g Twist" again.

I really enjoy these exchanges between Jack and Ennis.  They just drive home their differences.  Jack is just sooooooo ready to bend the rules and Ennis is so lawabiding and infrexible...........all the more power it gives his love for Jack.

"Stud duck"   - Annie refers to Jack's dad as a stud duck.  For the first time today I noticed that Lureen's dad refers to himself as a stud duck whose going to carve the turkey.

Has anyone heard this term before?
