Too bad they didn't have the handwritten notes that Ennis/Jack sent to each other and the mountain picture postcard...

Here is what the Postcards have on the back.

The 1st one Jack sent  Ennis, is an exact replica of the one from he movie, they have the postal stamp from Childress Sept 1967 TX. What Jack wrote in the same handwriting as the movie...

Friend this letter is long over due. coming throughon the 24th Drop me a line say if your there
Jack

Then of course it is addressed to Ennis

Mr Ennis Del Mar
General Delivery
Riverton Wy.

The rest are reviews, comments and quotes, they are typed in a small font and are up in the top left hand corner.

Ennis and the shirts...

"...Ledger's wrenching performance
is the stuff of Hollywood history."

- Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

Jack & Ennis in the grass...

"Before I knew I could physically do it,
I jumped on it. I just knew, in the
bottom of my heart, if I let it go, I would
regret it for the rest of my life."

- Ang Lee, Director

Ennis on the 4th of July...

"Unmissable and unforgettable.
It hits you like a shot in the heart."

-Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Jack crying after the divorce...

"Jake Gyllenhaal is flawless.
His performance is a mercurial mix of
plain, poetic and practical."

- Joe Morgenstern, The Wall Street Journal

Ennis & Alma...

"One of the great things Ang brings to the
story is the humanity and attention devoted
to every character. This isn't just a story
about our leads; it's about their wives,
their children, their communities."

- James Schamus, Producer

Dozy Embrace...

"Revolutionary. A film in which love
feels almost as if it were being invented."

- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

Jack & Lureen...

"I think the thing that startled me the most
was the vast range of emotions the story made me feel.
It affected me as a woman, and I felt it would
surely effect anyone else, no matter what
their sexual orientation. The feelings it evoked are
universal - love, loss, pain, regret.
Through the centuries, people haven't
changed in their wants and needs and desires."
- Diana Ossana, Screenwriter/Producer

Get it. Trust me you'll love the one that one that Jack sent Ennis, it's a reproduction of the one from the movie. Then you have the one with Jack crying, its a close up. Then the one with Jack & Lureen dancing, and Jack's got this big grin on his face, and again it's a close up. FInally you have the close up of the Dozy Embrace.

Yes. I sat there and looked at that one for awhile and I thought "Damn. This alone is almost worth the 20 bucks I paid." It's really bittersweet and such an amazing thing to have. Still would have liked deleted scenes but this replicated postcard from Jack almost makes up for it.

dirtbiker,
Thanks for the info about the layer problem. This DVD player is actually not a cheaper model and I do have a large DVD collection and have never seen this happen before on any of them. I guess I will watch the Collector's Edition (which I just now brought home) and see how that one fares.

Pierre, I sympathize.  What I can only say to justify my decision is that love is irrational -- many times, we willingly allow ourselves to be used for love's sake...

You are certainly within reason here, Pierre.  I am quite mad about it myself.  Sadly, it is in the nature of these corporations to use us thus for profit.  The best I can do is to write a review on Amazon lambasting their decision.

i pre-ordered the Collector's DVD from amazon - I hadn't bought any others.  I paid $24.99, but today saw it was on sale for $16.99.  I emailed amazon & they are giving me a credit for the difference.  Thought I'd post this in case anyone else had the same situation.

I also looked at the HD-DVD version of it.  It has both the HD and standard def DVD on each side (2 sided).  I guess I will order both of them since I have an HD-DVD player and if nothing else, for the paultry extras and the postcards on the collector's edition....
dirtbiker:
Will be really interested to know the quality of the HD DVD, does it truly improve the sharpness of the presentation on a quality display? If the transfer is good and you can make out better detail it would be worth it. Please keep us informed.

Ennis, riding against the wind back to the sheep in the treacherous, drunken darken light, thought he'd never had such a good time, felt he could paw the white out of the moon.

I was able to get the free shipping because i also ordered the piano music of the soundtrack.  I wasn't able to preview it, so hope I can play it!  I'm also going to check out that "trivia" book that Luv Jack Nasty mentioned early on this thread, but think I'll check it out in person first.  I'm always a little leery of "unofficial" versions.

Thanks for the pix :) I'm beginning to think it might be worth it just for the postcards, but I hate to give in and allow myself to be ripped off like that, especially since I wouldn't be able to even watch the DVD anyway. (I don't know why there are apparently no plans to release it in the UK, we give them a truckload of BAFTAs and this is all the thanks we get >:( ) But if I order it, I just know that a week later they'll release it here, and I would've wasted even more money ::)

Well, if you want to get it, go through playusa.com - it's £13.99 and you get free delivery.

One thing, though - when I was looking for that, I noticed there's an "Academy Awards Edition" due for release on the 30th of January. Anyone got any ideas what that is?? :s)
