Oh God this lines touching my soul... anybody else feel the same when Ennis say:
"Well, why don't you? Why don't you just let me be? It's because of you that I'm like this! I ain't got nothing... I ain't nowhere...(he's crying, Jack try to hug him) Get the f*** off me! (they fall on the ground) I can't stand being like this no more, Jack. :\'(
Most heart wrenching scene I have ever seen or could have even imagined.
Just as you said, gimmejack. Utter brilliance -- writers, director, actors. This whole scene. Tragic, heartbreaking from the first moment when Ennis says he can't make it in August, to the end, Ennis collapsed in Jack's arms, and then the dozy embrace. Every single word of this confrontation/fight, is just so stunning, all the problems we all have, compounded by the particular challenges Ennis and Jack have faced all these years.
Okay, and a line I always really like is toward the beginning, when they're standing separated by space, Jack off on that little rise and Ennis still by the trucks, and Jack is ranting and raving (I don't have access right now to print or screen versions to quote this Jack dialogue specifically)...and Ennis says
"Go easy on me, Jack." Somehow, to me, just his saying that, asking Jack to not be so harsh because he (Ennis) has his problems, is...I don't know the words for what it is, but it touches me and moves me and makes me cry for Ennis. And that's only near the beginning of the scene.
