They dance for while....

Ennis returns to the table, sits.
Ennis:  No more dancin' for me... I hope..

Cassie and Ennis sit down opposite each other at a table.  Cassie takes off her shoes and rubbing one of her feet.  Ennis smiles at her.

Ennis:  Hard work, is it?

Cassie: Trying to get a foot rub, dummy.

Ennis: Allright.(He begins to rub her foot). That's good?

Cassie:Huum.
Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Jack smiled sad. “Yeah, Ennis. Love.” Leaned forward and kissed Ennis’s temple, whispered, “What’d you think it was, all this time?”

Lashawn (dramatically):  Well, even though we ain't quite sorority sisters, we my just have to dance with ourselves, Lureen!  Our husbands ain't the least bit interested in dancing.   They probably don't have a smidgin of rhythm between them.

Lureen: It's funny isn't it? Husbands don't never seem to want to dance with their wives.
Why do you think that is Jack?

Jack brushes cigarette ash off his shirt and refuses to meet Lureen's eyes as he says:  Ain't never gave it any thought.

Jack then turns to Lashawn and says:  Wanna dance?

Lashawn (a little surprised):Yes,thank you.

Jack(to Randall): Do you mind?

Randall:No it's allright.

Jack(repeats):Alright.

Jack makes eye contact with Randall then follows Lashawn to the dance floor as she just chatters away:  Thank you for asking me to dance.  I really appreciate that...I really do.

Lureen, sitting at the table, looks upset, rolls her eyes in Jack's direction and continues to smoke her cigarette.

Jack and Lashawn start to dance and she continues to just chatter away:  It's a good think that you and Lureen happened along when you did or else we'd still be stuck on the side of the road in that darn old pick-up.  I told Randall that we should take the car but he don't never listen to me.  He wouldn't listen to me if he was going deaf tomorrow.

Lashawn laughs nervously and continues to chatter:  I told Randall that it would take more than chewing gum and bailing wire to fix that pick-up.

Jack looks over Lashawn's shoulder at Randall as Lashawn continues to chatter:  Well, he's never been very mechanical...

New scene outside the dance hall (finally), Jack an' Randall sittin' on a bench.

JACK:

Ever notice how a woman will powder her nose before she goes to a party,
then she'll powder it again once the party's over?

I mean, why powder your nose just to go home an' go to bed?

Randall takes a puff of his cigarette:  Even if I  wanted to know I couldn't get a word in with Lashawn...woman talks a blue streak.

You'll like working for Roy Taylor.He's solid,Roy.
Randall: Oh,yeah,Roy,he's a...He's a good old boy.
Another silence's seconds, that Randall breaks this time):
He's got a little cabin down on Lake Kemp.Got a croppie house, little boat.Said I could use it whenever I want.
Ennis’s eyes gone bright with shock, mouth opening then closing again. “Love?” Ennis said finally, voice strangling in his throat.

Randall, not looking at Jack, continues speaking quietly:  We ought to down there some weekend.  Drink a little whiskey...fish some.  Get away...you know?

Jack doesn't answer him but looks straight ahead and blinks his eyes rapidly.

We see Jack's surprised and a little anxious face while the two women are coming,of course speaking:

-LaShawn:And that was right out of SMU,I could've had my pick of pretty much any job in North Dallas,so my pick was Neiman Marcus...which was a desaster because, honey, where clothes is concerned...I got no resistance.I was spending more than I made.(bla,bla,bla).

The two men,a little uneasy, get up when the women are coming down the stairs. They don't say a word.

Cassie to Alma Jr. :  What do you think?  Is your daddy ever going to see fit to settle down again?

Alma, Jr. licks her lips quickly and looks nervously at Ennis:  Daddy, I was thinking.  With the new baby, Mom and Monroe have been awful strict on me.  More on me than on Jenny even.

Jr. continues:  I was thinking, maybe I could, may I could come and stay with you, Daddy.  I'd be an awful big help to you, I know I would.
