Ennis puts out a half smoked cigarette and puts it in  his pocket.  The train that has just passed sounds it horn, and then we hear a truck backfiring, gears grinding, as it comes towards Aguirre's trailer.  Driving the truck is Jack...he pulls up near the trailer and puts on the handbrake.  The rear wheels turn once more.  Jack gets out of the truck, kicks the rear tire, says "sh*t".

(scene with no dialogue)

Jack looks at the truck disgustedly.

Then turns, spies Ennis standing by the door, takes a few steps towards him, watches him for a few seconds.

Ennis shuffles, looks down, not acknowledging Jack presence.

Jack looks away to the distance, walks back to his truck.

Leans provocatively against the truck still watching Ennis.

Jack bows his head...

(Break in the scene)

We see Jack shaving with the aid of the rear-view mirror...  He hears the sound of a truck approaching...

An old  station wagon stops about two feet from the steps of the trailer,Ennis jumps up to get out of the way.
Aguire:  If you pair of deuces are lookin' for a job, I suggest you get your scrawny asses here, pronto.

The boys enter Aguirre's trailer office.

Jack stands erect, feet apart, chest up, hands in his jeans pockets.

Ennis leans casually against the wall, (in a classic Contrapposto stance) hat in hand.

AGUIRRE begins:

Up on Brokeback the Forest Service' got designated campsites on the allotments . . . .

Aguirre continues:  Them camps can be three, four miles from where we pasture the woolies.  Bad predator loss if there's nobody looking after them at night.  Aguirre pauses and looks at Jack and Ennis.  Now what I want, looking at Ennis, is the CAMP TENDER in the main camp where the Forest Services says, but the HERDER, Aguirre nods his head at Jack, he's gonna pitch a pup tent on the Q.T. with the sheep, and he's gonna SLEEP there.  You eat your supper and breakfast in camp, but you SLEEP with the sheep.  One hundred per cent!  NO FIRE.  DON'T LEAVE NO SIGN.  You roll up that tent every morning in case Forest Service comes snooping around.

Aguirre is interruped by the ringing of the phone...

Aguirre: Yeah? No. No! Not on your f*ckin' life!

He bangs the phone down..

All this time, Ennis and Jack look at the other while the other is not looking...

Aguirre starts in again at the boys, pointing at and looking Jack in the eye:

You got your dogs, your 30/30, you sleep there,

Last summer I had goddamn near 25% loss, I don't want that again. . .

Aguirre:
You (points at Ennis).. Fridays at noon be down at the bridge with your grocery list and mules, somebody with supplies will be there at the pickup. (throws a hand watch towards Ennis)
Tomorrow mornin' we'll truck you up to the jump off.

Aguirre sits at the table lights a cigarette picks up the phone...  pauses... looks angrily at Ennis and Jack.

(can I say it here??...fu*ck Aguirre.... ;) )

Jack and Ennis leave the trailer, pause on the stairs.

Jack immediately lights up a cigarette, Ennis plays with the watch.

Jack turns, looks at Ennis, extends his hand:

Ennis is standing on the ground looking at the watch in his hand.  Jack is standing on the steps next to him, so he has to look down to see Ennis' face.  Jack leans down a little and makes an effort to catch Ennis' eye.

Jack:  Nice to meet you, Ennis del Mar.

New scene, in the bar.

JACK (taking a swig from his beer):  My second year up here. Last year a lightnin' storm killed 42 sheep - thought I'd asphyxiate from the smell. 'Course Aguirre got all over my back like I'm supposed to control the weather. Still, beats workin' for my old man - can't please my old man, no way. Why I took to rodeoin'. You ever rodeo?

Jack glances sideways at Ennis, taking in his worn clothing and spare clothes in a paper sack and says slowly:  Your folks run you off?

Ennis replies:  No, they run themselves off...there was only one curve on the road in 43 miles, and they miss it.  The bank took the ranch, and my brother and sister, they raised me mostly.

Jack looks slightly stunned, sorry he asked:

JACK:  Shit. . . . That's hard.

Ennis tries to break the mood, reaches for the unsmoked half a cig in his pocket and gestures to Jack for his lighter.

ENNIS:  Can I? . . . . thank you

New Scene.  At the Jump Off.  The Chilean responsible for supplies talks with Ennis:

Chilean: One thing: don't ever order soup.  Them soup boxes are hard to pack.

Ennis is checking his new horse's saddle.  He has his back to the Chilean as he replies quickly:  Don't eat soup.

(another important scene with no dialogue)

Jack mounts his horse to go back to the sheep, but the horse bucks and snorts a little while Jack struggles to control the filly . . . .
Meanwhile Ennis, who's been cleaning up the dishes, watches the whole thing.
Jack give's an embarrassed glance at Ennis.

Ennis watches Jack ride off . . . .
